For as long as Adam could remember, he lived in fear of death. The sole reason he became stronger, was to ensure that he didn't have to suffer.
But he suffered, a lot. Anytime he stared at the 500 gold coins, his hands balled into fists. He was treated like a common criminal and tossed like a rag doll. Everything he did, he did to survive.
He didn't even have that anymore. He always survived with the skin of his teeth, and he was tired of doing that. When he first met Crystal, she showed off amazingly to him, to the point where he almost fell in love with her. But after a while, he realized there was no place for him.
And everybody in The Renegades was too in love with their lives to consider changing the status quo. They didn't care about fighting back, and even if they knew a way out, Adam wasn't sure they'd take it. It was a heavy blow when he realized that he couldn't forget about returning to Selene, and neither could he forget about revenge.
