Chapter 1 - The Dream Crisis

A distant voice was like shouting around the old lady as if the voice was in pain, but the old lady was spacing out. Was it because of her age, or something else? No one knew. The voice was not a little clearer, and she was able to hear it. It was like a voice of a little girl calling for help, and what she said was, "Grandma, I can't run! Please help me. Grandma? Grandma? GRANDMA!"

She couldn't respond to this as she was still spacing out, but after taking a deep breath, the old lady was finally ready to help that little girl. She could see how the leg of the little girl was stuck under the rubble of a broken building, but the girl wasn't hurt. The girl was also wearing a dress that was not so familiar, and she had a line that looked like lightning on her neck.

"Why is she calling me grandma?" the old lady thought. "Father and mother are trying their best to make us escape, so it would be best that we escape this hell hole first." She accepted the words of the little girl and started walking. As the little girl was injured, they had no choice but to walk slowly. The old lady could not see anything that looked like a fight. She asked the little girl, "Even though you say that there's a fight going on and we are being chased, why can't I see anyone?"

The little girl smiled and said, "To explain that, I will have to tell you this from the beginning. Grandma, you are not actually my grandma, or rather I should say you are not actually the present Lily. Instead, you are the Lily from the past." Interrupting the words of the little girl, the old lady asked, "And what year is this?"

The little girl said, "Even if I tell you, you wouldn't understand. It's the year NHC 12." The old lady replied, "Yes, I don't understand what you just said." The little girl replied to this and said, "To make it easier we can say you are about 114 years old."

The old lady replied to this in an angry manner, saying, "Nonsense, how could I be 114 years old when humans can only live up to a maximum of 100 years with a few exceptions?" The little girl said, "That is also true. Humans can only live to a maximum of 100 years at most, but that said it is the limit of humans."

The old lady said, "Do you mean-?" Interrupting the words of the old lady, the little girl replied, "Yes, we are not humans anymore." The old lady asked again, "Then what are we?"

The little girl said, "I wish I could explain this in detail to you but time is running out, and you will have to go when you wake up. You may not remember these things, but each time you sleep, you can meet me here. But each time there will be something new you will find, which is definitely not beneficial for mankind, and this problem can only be solved by us Nano-Humans, but only a few of them exist now."

A sudden sound of beeping was coming from the wrist of the old lady, and everything began to feel blurry again. The little girl said, "Farewell grandma, we shall meet again the next time you sleep." The old lady lost consciousness and suddenly woke up in a very familiar place: her room.

She thought, "It feels like I could cry, but I can't remember why. Probably some bad dream, better not to remember it as it will only cause more pain for me." She tilted her head to the right of the bed where she saw her mom standing a little close to a wall, having a not-so-pleasant mood. "Mom?" she said.

Her mom finally spoke, breaking her silence after a few seconds. "How could I sleep with you screaming all over the place? Even your dad was worried, is everything alright?" She said a little nervously, "Yeah?"

Her mother said, "I hope that you don't make noises in your sleep again if everything is alright." Her mother now went out of her room, and she knew how unhappy her mother was from this, but what could be done now? She saw the clock, and it was already 5 am.
