Dion's eyes turned sharp as they watched the three gleaming, poisonous icicles streaking through the air. 'I have no choice but to control the mana. But I still have to be prudent or else I will end up destroying all my runes and aptitude, and I won't be able to enter the Blood Magic Academy.'
He snapped his head backward and used his eyes to pull the mana at his back, smashing himself into the tree in front of him. He crashed into the branch and hugged it, before slowly turning upward. Blood spurted out of his mouth. His back felt like a sledgehammer smashed into it.
He quickly sat up, crawled deeper, and hid in the tree, using the thick branch as a cover.
He wiped the blood off his lips and cursed, "Dammit! That almost snapped my spine. I should have loosened my rigid muscles in the air. I merely wanted to push myself out of the way but because of my clumsy control, I nearly destroyed my spine. How much rune did I consume?"
