'Where in the world am I?' Arlo moaned, feeling as if a colossal weight was pressing him into the ground.
Something squirmed above him. He squinted against the dazzling sunlight, raising his hands to shield his eyes, and saw Hilde.
His vision was blurred from the impact of the rocks that had struck his skull. He shook his head, attempting to clear the fog from his mind. Hilde was there, standing over him, her mouth open in a scream.
Arlo was puzzled, 'Why is she just standing there? Why does she look so petrified?'
He followed Hilde's gaze, her forehead marred by a scar, down to his stomach. A cockroach, as large as he was, was perched there, munching on his shoes.
"AHHH…"
Arlo let out a shriek. He instinctively shoved at the cockroach, causing it to topple onto its back, its legs flailing in the air.
