"Of course not!" Christian quickly shook his head as he rose to his feet. "I was trying to see what Nick had in the envelope in case it was something essential that could be of use right away."
"And what did you find?" Diane inquired. Her tone was slow and dangerous like she was ready to rip him apart if he hadn't nothing important to report back. And he knew better than to mess with her. He had abandoned her in the bathroom after his promise to join her soon. But how could he outrightly confess he was deliberately avoiding her?
Maybe he shouldn't have made the promise to keep her hopes high in the first place.
"We got a vacation house in Hawaii and a luxurious furnished house in Canada," he revealed. "Plus a new security detail added."
