Chapter 1 - The Cheating Couple

A woman with a doctor's coat hung on her left arm walked along the corridors of First Family Hospital in an ugly dirty-green Crocs. Her long ponytail bounced behind her as her steady steps led her towards a reception desk.

"Dr. Brown, over here!" One of the nurses in a blue scrub raised the telephone in the air while pointing at it.

Diane doubled her steps and quickly reached for the phone. "Hello! This is Dr. Brown speaking," she announced and listened for a while before answering, "Yes, Chief. We concluded the surgery five minutes ago. No. I'm not on duty tonight. Goodbye, Chief."

A deep breath escaped Diane's lips as she put down the telephone. "I guess we will call it a night," she smiled at the nurses, displaying her double dimples, and was going to leave when a familiar face on the news broadcast on the TV hanging on the wall at her left, caught her attention.

Immediately, she felt her heart flip in her chest.

As the TV volume was low, Diane saw herself closing in on the screen to hear what the news anchor was saying.

News Anchor: "Today, the Heirs Group of Companies announced Mr. Christian Knowles as their new CEO for their Hotel subsidiary. Mr. Knowles has…"

Right. The picture of the man displayed on the evening news was Christian Knowles, Diane's ex-boyfriend who seemed to be the new hot shot of NYC.

The rest of the news anchor's words drowned out in Diane's head as she became lost in that handsome photo of her ex in a 3-piece plaid suit. Memories flooded into her mind; it was weird seeing such a familiar face looking so… unfamiliar.

She was so engrossed that she failed to hear the approaching footsteps of another female doctor in her early 30s, calling out to her.

"Diane?" A woman with olive skin called out again as she placed her hand on her shoulder. Almost immediately, Diane gasped in shock.

"Oh. My. God. Are you okay?" Dr. Tricia asked in concern.

Diane tried to fake a smile while nodding. "Yes, I'm good. I was just lost in thought."

Tricia finally smiled and stole a glance at the TV. "We all love the new hot shot 'cause he is young, rich, and sexy."

Diane shook her head, waved to the nurses, and resumed her steps. Dr. Tricia chased after her and finally relaxed when she matched her steps.

"I heard you are not on duty tonight. So, are you going home right now?"

Diane glanced at her and spread her arms "Where else would I be when I finally get some time off this embodiment of chaos?"

Dr. Tricia laughed it off before reminding her kindly, "Diane, don't forget your appointment tomorrow. We need to have the surgery done to open that place up as soon as possible. Also, don't forget to invite your husband this time around. It's necessary."

Diane stopped in her steps and released a deep breath. "Thank you, Trish. See you tomorrow."

Dr. Tricia took that as her cue to leave and finally waved goodbye to her before making a right turn. "See you tomorrow, I have a patient in Skyville that needs my attention now."

As soon as her back was all Diane could see, the smile on her face vanished. Which husband was she going to invite to her doctor's appointment? As far as she knew, her husband had been giving her the cold shoulder for the last three days.

An argument regarding their bedroom activities had spiraled off between the couple. Diane was so sure that her husband wasn't coming with her for her doctor's appointment the next day unless one of them bowed first.

And as it was, she wasn't going to apologize for a situation that wasn't her fault, and knowing her conceited husband, he wouldn't be saying 'sorry' anytime soon or even attempting to speak to her unless he was in dire need of something that was in her possession.

Diane stopped by her office to hang her coat and grab her bag before making her way to the elevator. But as soon as the elevator doors closed, a notification sounded on her phone.

It was a mail from Mr. R, and seeing the sender's name, a frown masked her face.

This was not the first time she had received mail from Mr. R. In fact, he had been harassing her with messages for the past two months.

Despite guessing what the content of this current mail might be, Diane opened it only to see a message and her husband, Phillip Sanders' office address right below it.

Mr. R: "Stop being a coward and face the truth."

Instantly, Diane's heartbeat accelerated. Though she didn't know the identity of the mysterious sender and his odd interest in her relationship with her husband, she chose to do something about his disturbing messages today.

Already, she had been in a crappy mood for the past few days because of her husband. So, this could be a good opportunity to ruin his day. Or so she thought.

Diane got into her car and entered the address of her husband's company in her car's GPS. Half an hour later, she parked at the car park made her way to the building, and stopped at the front desk to give her name before she was allowed to take the elevator to the last floor.

By being Mrs. Sanders, she did not need any reason to visit her husband in his office. At least, this would be her third visit since they got married.

Arriving at the last floor, Diane did not see anyone at the reception desk so, she directly made her way towards the General manager's office, a position held by her husband in his family's company.

Even though Diane did not marry Phillip out of love, she still expected respect from his end if she was to show any to him. Therefore, she wished that all the information Mr. R had been sending her would turn out to be false.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case because nothing prepared her for the sight that she would behold, nor the sounds of pleasure that would fill her ears when she pushed the door open.

Inside the office, a woman lay with her back against the work desk. Her legs were tightly wrapped around the waist of Diane's husband, Phillip.

Diane could see her husband sway his hip almost desperately, his trousers pulled down to his feet while the skirt of the woman hung above her waist.

The two seemed so engrossed in their wild entanglement and with their loud moans of pleasure that they did not notice her presence. Only the sound of Diane's bag dropping to the floor finally got them snapping back to reality.

Immediately, the heads of the cheating couple turned to Diane's direction in sync. They were both so shocked to see her that they stopped moving.

What was even more shocking for Diane was not just that her husband was having sex with another woman in his office, but the fact that the woman he was together with was none other than his secretary who was supposed to be at the reception desk out there.

Those two had the nerve to do something so shameless in a public place without bothering to lock the doors.

"What the fuck!!!" Diane cursed out loud as an unspeakable rage filled her heart.
