Chereads / Alpha Ambrose / Chapter 9 - Beast

Chapter 9 - Beast

"Sire, I will go check it out,"The driver got out of the car and closed the door behind him.

No, no, no don't do that I wanted to scream at him but he already left.

Panic set in within me, I could sense it, whatever is out there, they weren't just two or three, this is a whole pack.

I moved my gaze to the Alpha beside me, he had a cold expression on his face.

" Whatever happens don't step of this car, I'll be back,"Without letting me speak he got out of the car and close the door firmly behind him.Bone crackling sounds instantly fills my ears, my eyes and mouth still wide open at the realization of everything.

Everywhere was silent at first but then I heard a growl some meters away, I was too scared to look outside but I forced myself to do so.

I squinted my eyes as I peered through the window.

A sigh of frustration left my lips when I couldn't see anything, I decide to just lean back and catch my breath, plus my head was throbbing.

A minute later I decide to look through the window again, and this time I was able to make out the dark silhouette, I felt the chills run down my spine and I quickly averted my gaze when I noticed it turn its head but not before I caught sight of its red eyes. I moved to the other side of the seat as many thoughts ran through my mind, but I knew I couldn't stay here and make catching me so easy, I would fight till my last breath.

But his's words passed through my mind, 'No matter what happens, don't s get out of the car,I'll be back'

Even still I can't stay here and look weak and helpless, I was the best female fighter in human form back at the pack, I should be able to handle myself and besides if I stay here, I will just be offering myself on a platter to them, I opened the car and stepped out of it, I staggered backward due to the poison in my system. I reached for the dagger in my boots. My free hand traveled to my throbbing head, as I took shaky steps forward not sure of where I'm going.

God, why is it so hard to see through this fog?

"Ah!"I shrieked slightly due to the pain in my thigh.

I could feel his presence but I couldn't identify where he was.

I suddenly lost my balance stumbling forward into a pile of bushes, I'm guessing I must have gone off the road, when I tried to stand up again, I suddenly heard a growl behind me, causing every hair on my body to stand,I swallow.

I sucked in a sharp breath as I clenched my fist ready to run or attack which ever I'm not sure of myself.

I stay still, took a another but sharp deep breath as I count inwardly.

'One'

'Two'

'Three'

At the count of three, I ran as fast as I could further into the woods.

"Woman... where are you?"

Woman? I felt irked by his choice of words but this is not time to make a big deal of such things, I suddenly felt a spark of hope, he sounds fustrated, I couldn't say anything in reply because even I, myself didn't know where I am, I just shout instead so he could follow the sound of my voice instead.

I didn't want to admit it but I need help, I felt too weak to even stand, the after math of the poison.

"Help" I let out but my voice cracked as it traveled in a whisper.

I felt too weak to stand, no matter how hard I tried.

Was this going to be the end for me? I thought in despair, no I didn't want to die like this, it would be too miserable, especially after coming this far, I always felt my life was useless and some point I considered, I wanted to die so bad because I had nothing to live for but why do fight it now? Why do I suddenly want to live?

I forced myself up on my four, crawling away with a whimper as I felt a piercing pain with every step I took, then suddenly I felt numb and I found myself losing my sense of hearing and sight.

Goddess! My head is throbbing, I felt so dizzy that I could lose consciousness any time soon.

I turned back when I got to a tree, holding out the dagger and ready to defend myself. I shake my head to stay awake but I felt my consciousness slowly slipping away from me.

I blinked twice forcing my gaze to remain focused, I felt cold sweat running down my face and body as I took heavy breaths.

I aimed the dagger at the Lycan in front of me, it is big but I've seen bigger, I let my lips curl up in a smirk.

'You just come closer, and I'll slit your throat, I thought inwardly.

Though I tried to pull out a brave face, I was scared, not just because of the lycan in front of me but also because of what I'd be forced to do if it came any closer.

"Don't move," I ordered, stressing each word.

But as if the Lycan couldn't be bothered, or wasn't afraid of the dagger in my hand, it took a step forward toward me.

"I said don't mo...ve" I tried to be bold but my voice came out in a mild crack, I felt my hands shaking with every step it took, and I shake my head to stay awake and focused.

Panic spread through me.

Please, please don't come any closer, I don't want to kill you.

I leaned back on the tree and I watched as its eyes moved around my frame like I was some prey he was about to devour.

Then my eyes widened when it leaped forward, and as it drew closer I felt my heart about to leap from my chest.

What was I doing? I should prepare to pierce it, but why? why couldn't I bring myself to react? at this point, unshed tears had already amassed in my eyes and I clenched my teeth.

Time seemed to stop at that moment and I couldn't help but wonder if this was the end for me.

No, I don't want things to end like this, not now that I've decided to live, I tightened my grip on the dagger, clenching my teeth harder, then threw the dagger towards it.

Did I hurt it well? it's supposed to have gotten to me by now, so that means I did it after all.

I let my whole body fall back on the tree, I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes but I knew I had to, I had to make sure that it is dead.

I opened my eyes only to see the silhouette of a tall, muscular man, holding the Lycan by the back of his neck.

Though the forest was foggy the haze seemed to have subsided slightly and from the little I could see through the mist, I noticed that the man was naked and muscular.

Moments later he effortlessly pulled the Lycans' spine from its back and the Lycan slumped to the ground and shifted back to human form.

I was horrified by the sight in front of me, from the dead Lycan on the ground to the man standing before me.

The aura I could feel from him was intense and imposing, so lethal that I had to flinch backward when he turned around and met my gaze.

His eyes were crimson red, bloodshot, and glowing in the darkness. No, this is a beast not a man

Everywhere was quiet and the only thing I could hear was my heavy breaths.

Stay away from me, please don't come any closer, I expressed inwardly as I suddenly found it hard to speak, my eyelids were becoming heavy and I found it hard to stay awake, but I fought to stay awake.

"Don't" My voice traveled in a whisper when he took a step towards me."Dont, come any closer." I managed to say between heavy breaths.
