Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The moment Bao Caihong walked out of the restaurant, her eyes were filled with tears, but she gritted her teeth and clenched her fists, refusing to show her weakness. However, she still felt pain in her heart.

Why would she cry over a useless man?

She turned slowly and raised her head to look at the restaurant. This had become her favorite restaurant, a place where she had loved because of Gao Ming. She still couldn't believe that she had wasted 2 years of her life loving and dating a scum and heartless human being. She had planned her future with him, her getting married and having kids for him, but now… her wish was that she never met him… not to talk of falling in love with him.

She averted her gaze from the restaurant and tightened her grip as she walked away. She would definitely come back for revenge.

It was still raining, but she didn't mind. She stood on the walkway while she waited for James to pick her up. She brought out her phone from her bag, slid her fingers across the screen to unlock it. She dialed his number and brought the phone to her ear. "Yeah, I'm done" she said, the sound of the rain almost drowning down her voice. She ended the call and lowered her head to look at her feet, frowning.

She tried to get her mind off what happened earlier, but those painful scenes and hurtful words kept on replaying in her head.

All of a sudden, there was a flash of light and the screeching sound of the tire of a truck. Bao Caihong raised her head, her eyes widening in shock. She immediately covered her eyes with her hand when the bright light flashed into her eyes. Her heart raced. She was confused and at the same time panicking, and before she could take a step to escape the attack, there was a deafening crash.

The truck had hit her, sending her body flying off the road.

The truck's headlights illuminated the scene of the accident, revealing a horrific sight. Bao Caihong laid on the ground, her legs twisted and bloodied. Her head was bleeding and traces of blood were at the corner of her lips. The rain was washing away her blood, turning the ground beneath her into a muddy crimson pool.

"Oh my God! Is she dead?!"

"I don't think she's dead"

"I can see her chest moving. It looks like she's still alive"

"Quickly help her. Somebody call the ambulance!"

All Bao Caihong could hear and feel were people talking around her and their movement. She could barely feel anything apart from pain. The pain she felt earlier was nothing compared to what she was feeling now. She tried to move her head, but realized that it was difficult to do so.

Help! Please help me! I don't want to die!

She was screaming those words in her heart, but she couldn't open her mouth to say a word. Those words got stuck in her throat. Her life flashed through her eyes. Is this how she'd end her life? In pain and agony? With no achievement whatsoever? What would happen to her grandmother and the company if she were dead? Most especially her grandmother, the only one she has.

Bao Caihong's breath slowed and tears rolled down her cheeks. Exhaustion was over taking her and she felt herself slipping away. She was caught between life and death, unsure of what would happen next.

If God gave her a second chance at life, she vowed that she would seek vengeance on Gao Ming and Xuan Yin who had wronged her. She would make them pay for their actions and would not rest until justice was served.

She saw James running towards her, his eyes wide with fear and disbelief. As he knelt down beside her, he fumbled for his phone to dial 911. She was slowly losing consciousness. She heard him cry out her name twice before everything went dark and silent.

Three months later.

Orlando, Florida.

Beep...Beep...Beep.

On the hospital bed, Bao Caihong who had being in a coma and remained motionless for 3 months, suddenly moved. The beeping sound of the machines around her sounded in the silent room. There were tubes attached to her body. No one would ever believe that this was the same mighty and powerful CEO Bao Caihong, lying on the bed, with a cast on her leg. She looked fragile, her skin almost translucent and her bones visible beneath the thin fabric of her hospital gown. Her cheeks were sunken, and her lips were cracked and dry.

She looked calm, almost peaceful and if not for the fact that her chest was rising and falling slowly, one would have thought she was dead.

Suddenly, her eyelids fluttered open, her vision blurred and disoriented. The dull ache that shot her body brought her back to reality, each movement causing a sharp pang of pain. She shifted slightly on the hospital bed, her movements slow and deliberate.

The first person she saw was James, her loyal bodyguard, standing vigilantly in the corner of the room, his presence a comforting reassurance. As her eyes met his figure, she saw concern etched in his features, his unwavering gaze fixed on her fragile form.

She opened her mouth, struggling to find her voice amidst the dryness of her throat, but she only managed to croak out a raspy sound. James saw this and swiftly approached her side, his footsteps echoing softly against the sterile walls.

With a gentle press of a button, James summoned the doctor, his actions swift and efficient. He then turned his attention back to Bao Caihong, his expression a mix of relief and apprehension.

"Bao Caihong, you're awake," James said, his voice filled with a mixture of relief and concern. "You've been in a coma for three months. You were involved in an accident, and we've been in Florida ever since then."

Three months?!

Bao Caihong was shocked. Her mind struggled to process the information, her memories fragmented and hazy. She tried to piece together the events leading up to the accident, but her thoughts were clouded by pain and confusion. She could recall that after she left the restaurant, she was involved in an accident that almost took her life.

But, what is more confusing is that, who could be after her life? Who wanted her dead?

She knew she had lots of business enemies, but could they be the ones after her life?

Just as she was thinking of this, the doctor entered the room, Bao Caihong braced herself for the inevitable flood of questions and examinations. She knew that her journey to recovery would be long and arduous, but she was determined to reclaim her strength and seek the justice she so fervently desired.
