Chapter 115 - Chapter 114: Second Round

Yusan PoV

I stopped pursuing the feminine mecha and smirked as my screen showed my decoy engaged in battle against Wilneth, Tira, and Zairus. The prince and Retas had gone to look for me.

Haha! Like I would give them that pleasure.

My eyes widened as a beam shot up from below. I quickly moved my mecha back and looked down to see the feminine mecha. It was at a distance, but its aim was still as deadly as up close.

I scoffed and shot several missiles at it. The silver mecha maneuvered away from them and had the little drones that came from its back intercept the missiles with shields. Was the enemy trying to protect those below?

Ha, what a fool! Wasting resources on the common folk when he could be using them to keep himself alive!

Megalia's thrusters burst, pushing me toward the silver mecha.

The silver mecha brandished its energy blade and threw it at me.

I tilted my head to the side, narrowly dodging the blade as it whizzed past, slicing through the air with a high-pitched hum. I could see the silver mecha's pilot, a fierce determination etched on their face, even from this distance.

"Impressive," I muttered, my fingers dancing over the controls. I needed to keep the pressure on. I activated my energy cannons, charging them for a concentrated blast. "But it's time to end this charade."

With a swift motion, I unleashed a powerful beam of energy toward the silver mecha, the blast illuminating the darkened sky. It surged forward, aiming to catch the enemy off-guard, to overwhelm them before they had a chance to retaliate.

But the silver mecha was quick. It activated its thrusters, darting to the side in a graceful maneuver that made my eyes widen. The beam missed, striking the ground below and sending debris flying in all directions.

"Not bad," I remarked, a hint of annoyance creeping into my tone. "But you won't be able to dodge forever!"

I recalibrated my targeting system, locking onto the silver mecha's position as it prepared another counterattack. This time, it charged toward me, the energy blade reforming in its hand, crackling with power.

"Come on, then!" I taunted, my confidence surging. The thrill of battle coursed through my veins as I readied myself for the clash. "Show me what you've got!"

As the silver mecha closed the distance, I fired my energy cannons again, a rapid succession of blasts aimed to overwhelm its defenses. The silver mecha deflected some of the shots with its energy blade, but others found their mark, causing it to stagger.

I seized the moment and charged forward, activating my melee systems. With a swift motion, I drew my own energy blade, its radiant glow matching that of my opponent's.

The two of us clashed in a flurry of strikes and parries, the sound of our weapons colliding echoing through the battlefield. Shockwaves shook the city directly below and the surrounding area.

My heart raced as I pushed against the silver mecha, feeling the strain of the fight as I pressed forward.

"You think you can protect them?" I shouted, my voice filled with contempt. "You're just delaying the inevitable! Surrender now, and maybe I'll spare your precious little ones!"

"Never!" came the defiant reply from its speakers. "As long as I breath, I will protect them!"

The voice, it sounded familiar. Like that of that one gadfly in Edesia. Chills ran down my spine. It felt as if I were facing a ghost.

With renewed vigor, the silver mecha launched a series of powerful strikes, forcing me to retreat momentarily. I could feel the pressure mounting; this pilot was skilled, and I couldn't afford to underestimate them.

"You're good," I admitted, my voice low as I recalibrated my strategy. "But good isn't enough."

The guy had his drones to return to him. They swarmed around, forming a defensive perimeter as I prepared for my attack.

"You think those little toys can save you?" I laughed derisively, my confidence returning. "Let's see how well they fare against real power!"

With that, I unleashed a massive wave of energy from my mecha, aiming to overwhelm the silver mecha and its drones. The blast surged forward, a torrent of light and destruction, ready to tear through anything in its path.

The silver mecha braced itself, and I watched with anticipation. Would this finally be the end of the foolish resistance? I crush their hopes and prove my dominance once and for all!

The enemy drones formed a forcefield, but the pilot had his mecha fly higher. Its metal hilt glistened in the sunlight.

"Be torn asunder by the light!"

My eyes widened as the sword was bathed in an ethereal light. The same the power he had used to take down my batalion in space.

I needed to regain control of this battle. I couldn't lose here!

With a quick decision, I activated Megalia's thrusters, diving downward to avoid the incoming attack. The energy beam surged toward me, illuminating the sky in a blinding flash. I could feel the heat radiating from the beam as it cut through the air.

In a desperate maneuver, I angled my mecha downward, narrowly avoiding the attack. I watched at it struck the ground. The resulting explosion sent shockwaves through the air.

My mecha began to fitz from all the energy. Megalia wouldn't last much longer.

I eyed the enemy mecha, furrowing my brows. Much to my surprised, the mecha flew off. Was the pilot trying to lead me into a trap? Or was this an actual retreat.

Sighing, I descended as well. Chills ran down my spine as I stared at the giant scar. Waterfalls of molten lava streamed into the opening.

The scariest part wasn't necessarily the damage, but that he avoided hitting and affecting the city. Whoever was riding that mecha mustn't have been a novice.

My mecha touched down, the metal legs thudding against the ground as I engaged the landing systems. I took a moment to steady my breath, my mind racing with thoughts of strategy and potential consequences. I needed to assess the situation and determine my next move carefully.

As I exited the cockpit, I activated my external sensors, scanning the scar for any signs of immediate threats. The air was thick with heat and the scent of sulfur. I could feel the ground vibrating subtly beneath my feet, the energy from the chasm pulsating like a heartbeat.

"What the hell is this?" I muttered, stepping closer to the edge of the scar. The molten lava cascaded down the sides, glowing bright orange and illuminating the darkened area around me. It was a dangerous sight, but there had to be something more to it.

I focused my sensors on the edge of the scar, trying to gather any data that might reveal what had caused this destruction. A spike in energy readings caught my attention, and I took a cautious step forward, peering into the depths of the lavafalls.

That silver mecha, I needed to get it. With this kind of power, I could be unstoppable!

"Finally found you," a voice called out. I spun around and saw Huitlo and Retas.

I smirked. "Indeed, you did."

My eyes widened as the silver mecha landed in front of me.

A panting blue-haired young man stepped out of its cockpit. He looked exactly like the gadfly... but older.

"Stand down, Vyran!" Retas yelled. "Leave this guy to us."

I let out a maniacal laugh and charged at the weak boy. "Die again, you pest!"

"Vyran!" Retas yelled as the young man was slow to react.
