Chapter 88 - Chapter 87: Peace and Games

Goerld PoV

"So, what game are we going to play?" Mirasa asked, full of curiosity.

Roan thought for a moment before his face lit up with an idea. "How about 'Capture the Flag'? It's simple, but it requires teamwork and strategy."

Sarudei, or Day as she preferred to be called, clapped her hands in excitement. "That sounds like fun! Let's do it!"

We quickly divided into two teams. On one side, it was me, Tessa, Day, and Vyran. On the other side, it was Roan, Lia, Arare, and Mirasa.

We decided to use the docking bay as our play area, marking out boundaries and hiding spots with whatever equipment we could find. The flags were makeshift, using pieces of cloth we found in the storage compartments.

"Alright, everyone ready?" Roan asked, holding up his flag. "Remember, no mechas or tech. It's all about speed and cunning."

Everyone nodded, their expressions determined but playful. The game began with a rush of excitement as each team dashed to their respective sides, strategizing on the fly.

I took charge of our team, quickly assigning roles. "Tessa, you and I will guard our flag. Day and Vyran, you're on offense. Let's move!"

Tessa and I took our positions, keeping an eye on our flag while also scanning the area for any incoming opponents. The sounds of laughter and hurried footsteps filled the docking bay, a welcome change from the usual tension of our missions.

Day and Vyran moved swiftly, dodging behind crates and machinery as they made their way towards the other team's flag. I could see the determination in their eyes, and I knew they would give it their all.

"Incoming!" Tessa whispered, nudging me. I turned to see Roan and Lia approaching from the left, their expressions focused.

"Let's split up," I suggested to Tessa. "I'll take Roan, you handle Lia."

Tessa nodded, and we moved into position. I intercepted Roan, trying to outmaneuver him as we danced around the obstacles. He was quick, but I managed to keep him at bay, blocking his attempts to reach our flag.

Meanwhile, Tessa faced off against Lia, using her agility to stay one step ahead. The two of them engaged in a series of feints and dodges, each trying to outsmart the other.

As I focused on keeping Roan from our flag, I heard a triumphant shout from the other side of the docking bay. "Got it!" It was Arare's voice.

I whipped my head around just in time to see Arare sprinting back to his side with our flag. My heart sank. How did he manage to sneak past us so easily? I glanced at Tessa, who wore a similar expression of surprise and frustration. He must have sneaked past while Tessa and I were distracted by Roan and Lia.

"Stop him!" I shouted, but it was too late.

Arare dashed nimbly past the obstacles, Mirasa cheering him on from the other side. Just as Arare seemed to be relishing his imminent victory, a blur of movement caught my eye. It was Vyran, sprinting with their flag in hand, an impish grin plastered across his face.

"Go, Vyran!" Day shouted from behind a stack of crates, her voice echoing through the bay.

Arare's eyes widened in realization as Vyran darted past him, their flags fluttering in the air. "No way!" Arare gasped, his pace faltering momentarily as he processed what was happening.

I felt a surge of hope. We still had a chance. "Run, Vyran, run!" I yelled, my voice blending with the excited shouts of my teammates.

Roan and Lia, realizing the gravity of the situation, broke off from their confrontation with Tessa and me and sprinted towards Vyran, desperate to intercept him. But Vyran was fast, his movements fluid and determined.

As Vyran closed in on our side, I could see the determination in his eyes. He knew how crucial this was. With one final burst of speed, he crossed the finish line, clutching the opposing team's flag triumphantly.

The docking bay erupted in cheers and applause, our team celebrating the unexpected comeback. Day rushed over to Vyran, high-fiving him with exuberance. "That was amazing!" she exclaimed, her face lit up with joy.

Arare, now standing still and catching his breath, shook his head with a mixture of disbelief and respect. "Well played, Vyran. You really turned the tables."

Roan chuckled. "We're actually tied. The team who get both flags wins. At least that's how we play it back home."

Mirasa, Tessa, and I nodded.

Arare punched air. "Yes! That means we still got a shot!"

Tessa, Vyran, Day, and I walked back to the flag and huddled.

"We need better defense," Vyran said.

I whimpered inside. If only I had kept a better eye on my surroundings, then would've won outright. Vyran's daring run had given us a fighting chance, but we couldn't afford any more slip-ups.

"We need better defense," Vyran reiterated, his voice steady but urgent.

I nodded, feeling the weight of responsibility. "You're right. We need to be more vigilant. Tessa and I will stay back and guard the flag more closely."

Day chimed in, her eyes sparkling with determination. "Vyran and I will make another run for their flag. We'll be faster and more strategic this time."

Tessa placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "We can do this, Goerld. Just keep your focus, and we'll be fine."

With our plan set, we took our positions once again. Tessa and I stationed ourselves closer to the flag, our eyes scanning the area for any signs of movement. Day and Vyran prepared to make their dash, their bodies tensed like coiled springs.

"Ready?" Roan called out from the other side, his voice carrying a competitive edge.

"Ready!" We replied in unison, the energy in the docking bay electric.

The game resumed with a burst of activity. Day and Vyran moved swiftly, using the cover of crates and machinery to advance towards the opposing flag. I kept my eyes peeled for any sign of Roan, Lia, or Arare, knowing they would be plotting their own strategies.

Moments later, I saw Roan and Lia approaching from the left again, but this time, Arare was nowhere to be seen. My heart pounded in my chest as I realized they might be trying to use the same distraction tactic.

"Tessa, keep an eye out for Arare!" I shouted, my voice cutting through the noise.

"I see him!" Tessa yelled back, pointing to a shadowy figure darting towards our flag from the opposite direction.

I moved to intercept Roan while Tessa focused on Arare. Lia, sensing the urgency, increased her pace, trying to outmaneuver Tessa and reach our flag. The two engaged in a series of quick dodges and feints, each trying to outsmart the other.

Meanwhile, Roan and I circled each other, our movements cautious but deliberate. He lunged forward, trying to break through my defense, but I managed to block his path, forcing him to retreat.

Arare was getting closer to our flag, but Tessa held her ground, her legs as swift as a cat's. She managed to keep Arare at bay, preventing him from getting any closer.

On the other side, I caught a glimpse of Day and Vyran making their move. They had reached the opposing flag and were now sprinting back towards our side, their faces set with determination.

"Go, Day! Go, Vyran!" I shouted, my voice filled with encouragement.

Roan, realizing the gravity of the situation, broke off from our confrontation and sprinted towards Day and Vyran, desperate to intercept them. Lia followed suit, leaving Tessa and me to guard our flag.

As Day and Vyran neared our side, I saw Arare make one final desperate attempt to grab our flag. Tessa, quick on her feet, blocked his path, preventing him from reaching it.

With one final burst of speed, Day and Vyran crossed the finish line, clutching the opposing team's flag triumphantly. The docking bay erupted in cheers and applause, our team celebrating the hard-fought victory.

Day rushed over to Vyran, high-fiving him with exuberance. "We did it!"

Arare, now standing still and catching his breath, shook his head with a mixture of disbelief and respect. "Well played, Vyran. Well played, Day."

Roan approached us, a rueful smile on his face. "You got us this time. That was some impressive teamwork."

Lia, still catching her breath, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that was a good game. Maybe there's more to this alliance than I thought."

Tessa grinned, extending a hand to Lia. "Thanks, Lia. It was a good game. Let's hope our cooperation is just as strong when we face Yusan."

As we all gathered together, the bonds forged in the heat of competition felt stronger than ever. The laughter and camaraderie we shared reminded us that despite the looming dangers, we had each other to rely on.

Roan clapped his hands to get everyone's attention. "Alright, everyone! Let's clean up and get ready. The mission is still ahead of us."

We quickly tidied up the makeshift play area, gathering the flags and resetting the docking bay. The playful energy lingered in the air, a stark contrast to the seriousness that had dominated our time here in Soleon thus far.

My eyes went to the metal door leading deeper into the ship. I wondered how the meeting was coming along.
