As he continued to move, he saw multiple players gathering around in a few areas.
He asked one player while pointing toward one of those areas, "Bro, what going on there?"
Guy paused for a moment, and his head moved up and down. "Are you new to the game?"
He nodded. "This is my first time."
Guy nodded, "Oh okk. Well, those guys are competing for the chain quests."
He rubbed his mask and thought, 'Looks like another player found all 5 chain quest givers in the village.'
The player beside him said in frustration, "We are late, there is no point joining those quests," and walked away.
He nodded his head. Chain quests were super effective in increasing the rating, but only a handful of people could reach the successive stage of quests.
If 100 players could take the 1st stage of the chain quest, then only 50 to 60 who complete stage 1 first would able to take stage 2 while others would get dropped out.
This would continue to happen until stage 5, where only 3-5 people would have left to attempt the higher stages.
Still, starting a few quests was not that hard to complete, and reaching stage five in any of the chain quests would guarantee a D passing grade.
But these did not meet his requirements, so he continued to roam around the village, trying his luck at every place for the mass quest.
After wasting around for half an hour, he gave up on the mass quest idea and stood at the main gate leading outside the village toward the forest.
A player could also increase their rank by hunting, and the forest before him was full of monsters of different ranges.
The easier ones that even new players could kill with ease to massive mini-bosses that required groups of skilled players to hunt together.
He was confident about surviving against those beasts, but he knew his limit. He was not like those pro gamers who have advanced control and could take on those massive beasts alone.
Few players in the game even achieved the S rank by killing multiple massive beasts alone. He knew that even if he gathered other gang members, they would still not be able to take on one massive beast.
He canceled the option of hunting with the group and just stared at the forest in front of him.
There was one sure work method, but that was super risky and even if he succeeded, there was a high chance for others to reap all the benefits.
He did not know if it was worth taking the risk. The only good thing was this was a unique quest.
Unique quest was a hidden quest that was present in all the trail villages. A player needed to do things in a certain sequence to trigger these quests and once triggered, it would disappear from the game. Once he triggered this quest, no one in the entire game could trigger the same quest. So he was sure that no one else had any knowledge of that method at this point.
However, the problem with this quest was that it placed the initiator at a disadvantage. In his last life, the person who triggered this quest failed miserably and got an F grade while others reap all the benefits.
There would be no point if others gained top grades, and he left with the lowest F grade. He was not a saint that helped others.
He only wanted to trigger this quest because, in his last life, that player leaked this quest to the internet out of spite.
When this quest got leaked, multiple players devised methods to gain the most out of this quest.
Every one of those players agreed if done right, the initiator players could gain an A or higher passing grade.
He also had his plan to gain the most out of this method. Still, the risk was high.
He closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead. "fck it, I can't waste more time relying on my luck. Shit, let go all out."
He clenched his fist and made up his mind.
Not wasting more time, he opened his inventory. He had 8 bread pieces, 2 small 10-liter metal tanks full of water, and one trash sword as his starting resources.
He took out the trash sword and rushed toward the forest like other players.
…
While moving, he continued to swing the sword like a few other players around him, in an attempt to trigger the skill formation.
In Universal Online, players could learn the skill through skill tokens or manual creation.
The easiest way to get basic skills was manual skill development, where player action could lead to the development of the skill.
This way, anyone with little knowledge could develop common sword skills like slash, stab, block, and more.
He continued to move his sword in multiple directions and a few notifications continued to pop in front of him from time to time.
He nodded his head in satisfaction. In just a few seconds, he learned the basic slash, stab, block, and parry sword skills.
All these skills just slightly increased his damage, but it was much better than nothing.
Though manual learning had its limit, the primary method to get skills was through skill tokens.
A ruler could instantly learn a skill by using the skill tokens, but skill tokens were hard to get.
Glitch stopped thinking and moved away from the group of players rushing deeper into the forest.
He had no plans to go deeper into the forest instead; he started to roam around the outskirts.
As this was only the first hour of trial, multiple players were roaming in this area, making it harder for him to encounter any monster.
As he continued to run around, he spotted a pack of 5 ugly wild dogs.
This made him smile, as even though the forest outside the trial village had multiple monsters all of them belonged to the same species.
He started shaking with excitement. In his past life, he once chose wolves as his starting species, so he knew all the weaknesses of dog-like creatures.
Before anyone snatched his prey, he clenched the sword in his left hand and rushed toward the pack.
Dogs noticed him from afar and started barking, trying to scare him.
Arf!
Arf!
The sound of their barking wet his palm in sweat, his heart started bumping in excitement, and he increased his speed.
2 dogs growled at him and rushed at him head-on, the other 3 a little slow but followed behind the two.
A man and 5 dogs rushed toward each other with all the wrong intentions.
Just when the distance between him and the first dog was 10 meters, he pulled one 10-liter tank and threw it on the face of one of the leading dogs.
He saw panic in the dog's eyes. It tried to stop, but this led to it bumping into the other two running behind it.
This disbursed its balance and the next moment, the small water tank landed straight on its face.
Bam!
Half of the dogs rolled on the ground while whimpering.
Ding!
A notification popped up.
[Player Glitch you learned 'Throw']
[Throw: anything you throw can act as a weapon. Deal 120% damage; A critical hit deals 150%; Cooldown: None ]
The smile on his face went wide. He switched his sword to his right hand and moved to the two dogs madly running toward him.
The enraged first dog pounded on him with open jaws. He stabbed his sword straight into the dog's mouth.
As the sword the entered dog's mouth, he felt a weird but familiar sensation. Dog's hot breath on his palm made hair all over his body straight.
Stab
-150 red damage appeared on top of the dog and then its eyes lost the shine and it died.
Not wasting any momentum, Glitch spun to the side, pulling out the sword from the first dog's mouth and slashing it at the neck of the second dog.
Slash.
-180 a purple critical damage and his sword served the wild dog's neck in two.
