The morning sun struggled to penetrate the thick fog that blanketed the small town, casting a mysterious haze over the waking world. Aidan stirred from his slumber, his mind still foggy with remnants of a haunting dream. Images flickered in his mind's eye, elusive and unsettling, leaving him with a sense of unease that clung to him like a shadow.
Dragging himself out of bed, Aidan went through the motions of his morning routine mechanically, his thoughts consumed by the disconcerting dream that had plagued him throughout the night. As he descended the stairs, he found James waiting for him outside his house, concern etched upon his features.
"Morning, Aidan. You look like you've seen a ghost. Everything alright?" James asked, his brow furrowed with worry.
Aidan managed a weak smile, though the weight of his troubled dreams bore heavily upon him. "Just a rough night's sleep, I guess. Nothing to worry about."
But James wasn't convinced, his gaze lingering on Aidan with a mixture of sympathy and concern. "Well, if you ever need to talk about it, I'm here for you, man," he offered, a note of reassurance in his voice.
Grateful for the offer of support, Aidan nodded in acknowledgment as they set off towards the school, the fog swirling around them like tendrils of uncertainty.
As they walked, Aidan couldn't shake the feeling of being watched, a prickling sensation that raised the hairs on the back of his neck. Glancing nervously over his shoulder, he scanned the empty streets for any sign of the source of his unease but found nothing but swirling mist and looming shadows. He felt this from his home to the school.
Arriving at school, Aidan found himself lost in thought, the events of the previous night weighing heavily on his mind. A mysterious text message had appeared on his phone, its sender unknown and its contents cryptic. Who could it be, and what did they want with him? Is anyone pranking me? I am sure that somebody is trying to irritate and play with me. No. Maybe that person wants to be my friend. I need to find out.
Lost in his musings, Aidan barely registered James's concerned inquiry beside him. "Hey, Aidan, you seem distracted. Is everything okay?" James asked, his voice tinged with concern.
Aidan tore his gaze away from his phone, his thoughts still consumed by the enigmatic message. "Yeah, sorry. Just got a lot on my mind, I guess," he replied, though the words felt hollow even to his ears.
"If something is bothering you, please let me know. I am always with you.", said James.
"Yeah, I know. Thank you", said Aidan.
But before James could press further, a sudden commotion erupted in the classroom, the sound of hurried footsteps echoing through the corridors. A boy burst through the door, his face pale and panicked as he delivered his ominous message to the startled students within.
As the boy burst into the classroom, his usually cheerful demeanor was replaced by an air of palpable panic. His chest heaved with each breath, his eyes wide with shock as he delivered his ominous message to the startled students within. His voice trembled with emotion, the words tumbling out in a rush as he struggled to make sense of the horrifying scene he had stumbled upon.
With trembling hands, he pointed towards the door, his finger shaking as he gestured towards the source of the disturbance. His face was pale, drained of color by the gravity of the situation unfolding before him. Every line of his body seemed to quiver with tension, his entire being consumed by the weight of the terrible news he bore.
"There's a dead body in the school's washroom!" he exclaimed, his words hanging in the air like a sinister omen.
Panic seized the students, a wave of fear rippling through the classroom as they processed the gravity of the situation. James seized Aidan's arm, his grip tight with urgency as he pulled him towards the door, his expression a mask of concern.
"We need to go see what's happening," James insisted, his voice urgent as they made their way towards the scene of the disturbance.
Heart pounding in his chest, Aidan followed James through the maze of corridors, his mind racing with a thousand unanswered questions. Who was the victim, and what had led to such a grisly discovery within the hallowed halls of their school?
As they reached the washroom, a chill swept through Aidan's veins, the air heavy with the scent of death and decay. Pushing open the door, he felt a surge of nausea rise in his throat as he beheld the scene before him.
A figure lay sprawled on the floor, their lifeless eyes staring blankly at the ceiling above. Aidan's breath caught in his throat as he recoiled from the sight, a wave of shock washing over him like a tidal wave.
It was a total mess. Everyone was scared. There were screams and cries. The situation was uncontrollable.
Soon the school authorities arrived, their presence a stark reminder of the grim reality that now confronted them. With solemn efficiency, they began to clear the scene, ushering the students away from the grisly tableau that had unfolded before them.
As the school was dismissed for the day, due to the scene. The school was dismissed right away after the incident. All the students rushed out of the school with their racing hearts. Aidan felt a sense of numbness wash over him, his mind reeling with the weight of what he had witnessed. James's concerned voice broke through his daze, but Aidan remained lost in his thoughts, the day's events leaving him shaken to his core.
All around him, the students whispered in hushed tones, their eyes wide with fear and uncertainty. But amidst the chaos, Aidan couldn't shake the memory of the face he had seen lying lifeless on the cold tiles of the washroom floor. It was a visage that would haunt him for days to come, a grim reminder of the fragility of life and the darkness that lurked beneath the surface of their seemingly ordinary world. He could still see the face of the dead person in front of his eyes. Aidan since that scene did not utter a single word nor did he blink his eyes for once.
As he trudged homeward with James by his side, there the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the deserted streets, Aidan couldn't help but wonder what other secrets lay hidden in the darkness, waiting to be uncovered.
Looking at Aidan's condition, "Shall I walk you home?" asked James
There was no reply and James took it as yes and he walked along with Aidan.
As Aidan's home arrived, James wished him bye and was about to go on his way to his home.
"Could you please stay with me for a little bit more?"
"Yeah sure", said James.
They both entered Aidan's home and he took James to his room. Since then he did not utter a word. He was sitting like a statue. James too thought to let him be for a while. But this continued for a long time.
"I will go home, fresh up, and come back, Aidan."
There was fear in Aidan's eyes. He did not want James to leave.
"I promise to come back. Give me 30 minutes."
"Ok…"
James went to his home. He washed up and left to see Aidan. As he reached there, he straight away went to Aidan's room and was shocked. He saw that Aidan didn't move an inch. He was sitting at the same place in the same posture as when James left him. This seemed very strange to James. Yeah, he knows that what they saw today was very terrifying but even he witnessed the same as Aidan. He knows that Aidan is a little weak-hearted but, who sits like a stone for a whole half-day? It seemed very strange to him. Even when he tried to talk to Aidan, there was no reply. James could not take it anymore and wanted to know why his friend was so shocked and scared that he did not even move a bit. Is it just today's incident or is there anything more that is bothering him this much?
James broke the silence that hung heavy between them. "Aidan, I know that the scene in the school has shaken every one of us but you've been quiet all day before that. What's going on? Is there anything else that is bothering you?"
Aidan hesitated, unsure of how to articulate the turmoil that churned inside him. But as he met James's concerned gaze, he knew he couldn't keep his friend in the dark any longer.
"I saw his face," Aidan whispered, his voice barely above a whisper.
"What? Whose face?"
"The man who was found dead in the washroom. I saw his face in my dream."
