A wave of murmurs and gasps went through the audience. Next to Zemin, Citri sucked in a sharp breath and Danis muttered something inaudible, but impressed.
Zemin raised his chin and went toward Colonel Quinn, who took the items passed by his aide: an ornate letter of commendation, and a sheathed sword. Zemin clutched the first item to his chest, but the second gave him a pause.
"Your issued standard sword was destroyed in battle, Esquire Gatti. Thus, Commander Mordechai gave me the authority to pick a suitable replacement for you. Let this blade serve you as well as it did its previous owner."
