Hearing the name, his eyes lit up as the name was perfect for him. Looking at the Greek, Latin and French meaning, it speaks so much about him.
Glancing towards Gerald, "Call me Damien. My name is damien." He said.
Melody's cheeks flushed red, seeing as he accepted her name with no second thoughts. Turning to take her leave, "Father, I'll see you later."
"Wait" Damien called out as he got up from the bed. His voice cold and soothing, "This is my first time here, I would love to see the beauty of your town."
"Yes, take him with you." Gerald said. Looking at the way he was, Gerald could swear that his looks would sweep people off their feets.
He could bring the whole world to sin with his looks alone. "Are you sure you'll go out like that?"
Melody turned around, checking him out with her eyes. He was wearing loosed pants and a black shirt, with his long dark hair reaching his neck. "Father, there's nothing wrong with him." She mumbled as she dragged Damien out of the house.
..
"What's your name again?" Damien's sweet voice was heard as he focused his gaze on melody.
She faced him, her eyes bright and full of life, "Melody."
Damien could swear that she was the most beautiful person he had ever seen. He moved his hand to his chest slowly and he furrowed his brows in confusion.
What's this feeling?
In another part of the town,
"Please, I mean no harm. Spare me!" A woman yelled as she was tied to a tree with sticks around her.
People glared at her, disgust written all over their faces.
"How can we spare you?!" One of them spat. "You were caught practicing witchcraft!"
The woman shook her head in denial, fear written all over her face. Her hair was scattered and she looked tired and worn out. "I wasn't practicing witchcraft! I was just reading a book"
Another villager then brought out the book and showed it to everyone. "What more proof do you all need? This book clearly states the ethics of witchcraft! How dare you read something like this!" He growled.
Other villagers sided with him. "Burn her, she deserves to die!"
"Yes, burn her. We can't have a witch in our village!"
"People like this should be killed immediately. Why waste time talking to her?!"
The woman had a look of terror on her face as she watched how everyone laid false accusations on her.
A villager approached her, dressed like a noble man, he had a dark smile on his lips, "Elise, you shouldn't have rejected my marriage proposal" he said as he lit up the sticks surrounding her, his eyes glowing with pure malice.
"No! No! No!" She yelled as she struggled to break free. She struggled with her legs, trying to move them a bit far from the fire but it ended up burning her. "Please, please make it stop!" She groaned in agony.
However, the noble man smiled at the scene. He doesn't like getting embarrassed or rejected. Rejecting a noble man's proposal is the same as telling him he's not good enough.
What effontry?!
"If I can't have her, no one else can!"
At the same time, Damien and melody approached the scene. Melody widned her eyes in surprise, covering her mouth with her small hand, "No, not this again " she mumbled.
Damien watched how Elise screamed agonizingly in the flame and was shocked by how dark humans hearts are. "Why would they do something like this to their own kind?" He asked as he turned over to Melody, but instead, she dragged him away from the scene, covering his eyes with her small hands. "You were supposed to see the beauty of our town, not the darkside of it"
She paused abit and glanced at Damien, he didn't even push her away. Her face turned red as she removed her hands from his eyes. "Sorry" she mumbled shyly, her eyes avoiding his gaze.
As Damien didn't respond, she then continued, "Anybody seen practicing witchcraft or doing anything inhumane would be killed"
Damien furrowed his brows in confusion, "why? What if they're innocent?" He asked.
Melody smiled sadly at the thought of mother. "That's how she was killed. She knew nothing about it too." She mumbled, her eyes glistening with tears as her cheeks were turned a shade of red.
Seeing someone cry for the first time, Damien didn't know what to do. He watched as tiny drops of water came out of her hazel eyes and asked "who? Why are you weeping?"
"My mother was killed the same way. They lied against her. They made false accusations and called her a witch without doing anything ." She seethed as she trembled from anger, her fists clenched by her sides.
Damien watched as Melody's expressions changed from happiness, shock, anger and sadness. His heart ached slightly at the sight of Melody in pain, but what would you call that?
"Who are you?" A young girl's voice was heard as she approached melody and Damien. With the way Damien was looking at her, her eyes turned cold as she turned red from anger.
"I've never seen you before. How are you aquatinted to Melody?"
"Don't you know she's getting married soon?" She spat.
"Maria!" Melody yelled, cautioning her to stop spouting nonsense. However, she refused to back down. "You can't be seen with a man, Melody. Your husband wouldn't like that."
"That's how a slut behaves"
Damien raised his head up slowly, meeting Maria's gaze, "You called her a slut?" he asked, his voice deep and terrifying, sending shivers down Maria's spine.
Maria turned away, afraid of looking at him, "No..n.o. " she stuttered with her head faced down. His voice instilled fear in her, making her want to run from his presence. She wanted to run but she was still rooted to the ground.
"His eyes, why were they so terrifying?"
Maria's eyes widned in surprise as she remembered the colour of his eyes. "Green? How can that be?"
Ignoring Maria's question, melody got up and dragged Damien away. "Damien, what did you do?" She asked, slightly worried by what happened.
Maria wasn't someone to cower in fear that easily. For her to bow for Damien, melody felt uneasy. "Let's just go home. Father would be waiting for us"
"You're getting married soon?" Damien asked as he removed his hands from hers, standing in the side of the road.
His heart was disturbed greatly by this revelation but he couldn't understand why.
Melody's hands turned cold immediately he removed his big palm from her grasp. She walked towards him as she averted her eyes, refusing to meet his gaze. "I do not wish to get married, but my father would be in trouble."
"So you're being forced into it?"
"Something like that..."
"He's a Hugh government official and I was picked to be his bride. I wouldn't dare to refuse him"
Damien frowned slightly at her words. Why don't they have the right to refuse things they don't want? Why do they have to force a marriage on a young lady?
"what don't you like about him?" He asked as he slowed down his steps for her to meet up.
"He treats women as slaves" she said slowly. Henry is a handsome, young and successful man. At such a young age, he has accomplished a lot of things. But, he's famous for harassing females on bed, making them do unimaginable things. He turns then into his slaves as he doesn't prioritize them at all.
His first wife was killed mercilessly by him. He plays rough and she died because he never gets satisfied. Melody would be his second wife and she's scared of what the future might bring.
Nobody would dare to refuse him because he's very wealthy and influential. He could crush anyone in the
blink of an eye.
Melody's eyes turned Misty as she gazed at Damien. Her lips trembled slightly as she said, "I don't have a choice. I'll have to marry no matter what."
