Chapter Eleven: Enemy Attack? The Filial Son Yamato!
Kaido made his choice without much thought:
"1. (purple) factory productivity * 1000%, 3. (blue) technology research and development efficiency * 500%."
Wanokuni's production, undoubtedly, served as his foundation.
Moreover, the purple option was the sole one of its kind.
In terms of technology, Queen, a MADES research team member alongside Vegapunk, boasted a super high level of toxic gas development. He had also experienced the scientific advancements of Djerma 66. Alone, he could rival the abilities of Vegapunk and Vinsmoke Judge.
Kaido planned to incorporate technology into his army, making R&D efficiency a necessity.
After his selection, the system faded away silently.
There was no opportunity to test the newly acquired abilities before a sharp, angry female voice erupted from behind Kaido:
"Give me death, Kaido!"
He recognized the voice and spun around to face it.
Dressed in white and red, the woman had a striking figure, her white and green gradient hair tied in a high ponytail with two long horns rising to the sky. In her hand, she wielded a mace far smaller than his.
Her beautiful face seethed with resentment, yet she shared a blood kinship with Kaido.
It was Yamato, his own daughter.
She had just arrived at the peak of Onigashima, intent on confronting him, while the Flying Six on her heels remained persistent, trying to halt her advance.
Page One and Ulti feigned attacks as Sasaki led the offensive. Black Maria lurked, waiting for an opening.
Yamato, overwhelmed, could only employ her agility to evade.
When it seemed no one could lend aid, Sasaki stepped forward and blocked her path, his long sword pointing at her as he spoke in a mildly reproachful tone,
"Sorry, Lord Kaido."
The four still seemed to hold back some strength – at least enough to keep Yamato from speaking.
"No problem," said Kaido impassively. "What is happening below?"
"The commotion was tremendous. Aside from us and the numbered ones, all sustained injuries. We're assessing the situation."
"I assumed we were up against a formidable enemy and was on my way to assist..."
Page One's sentence was cut short, as Ulti interjected,
"And then we encountered your esteemed son. He had taken down numerous foes in his rush towards you, likely aiming to strike you unawares."
"Do we really need to involve ourselves in your family matters again?"
"And the enemy—have you fought them off?"
Ulti's tone was casual, yet she couldn't entirely mask her concern.
"There are no enemies; the upheaval stemmed from my training."
His reply was terse, leaving the six in astonishment.
Training? Could it cause this overwhelming oppression?
They were bracing for a clash with Kaido, never imagining that mere practice could exert such dBig Moming pressure.
Unbeknownst to them, the brunt of the suppression was directed solely at Kaido. Had they faced its full force, the outcome would've been much more dire.
Then, everyone heard Kaido's command,
"Let her go."
The five stepped aside. With no real adversary at hand, Kaido himself was more than sufficient to handle Yamato.
Finally free, Yamato caught her breath, gripping the mace, her chest heaving with exertion, her skin glistening with sweat.
Those eyes remained clear and bright, filled with fury, yet uncertainty lingered in my heart. I knew Kaido could not have prevailed without facing an adversary. "Why, don't you dare go through with it?" Kaido glanced at the mace clutched in Yamato's grasp, recalling it as a birthday gift to her. Now, was she intending to use it against me?
Kaido stared into her fiery eyes and asked with a frosty tone, "Why are you so filled with rage? Is it because I killed Kozuki Sukiyaki, or Kozuki Hiyori, or Yasuie, or the Red Scabbards?" Each name he uttered carved deeper into Yamato's heart, the wounds bleeding internally. With teeth clenched in anger, she roared, "You know I am Kozuki Oden! Yet you..."
Her words were abruptly cut off by Kaido, who barked, "I don't recognize that! Kozuki Oden? Have you forgotten your own name and identity? Kozuki Oden has long perished. I am the one who killed him! And if you're claiming to be Kozuki Oden, I will slay you alongside him!"
Before Yamato could respond, Kaido was relentlessly tightening his grip on his mace. When Luffy arrived, she declared herself Kozuki Oden to fight alongside him. And when the Marine Admiral Green Bull showed up, she claimed to be my son. Was this an adaptive identity or layered armor for full protection? Kaido realized he had been too lenient with her in the past. She was merely a fanatical, star-struck girl!
Fuelled by rising anger, Yamato charged forth, mace in hand. The hexagrams flew around her, and the onlookers saw the dissonant family ties wondering if Kaido was truly intent on ending Yamato's life today. Swinging the mace with electrifying energy, she aimed it straight at Kaido.
"Thunder Bagua!" she shouted.
However, Kaido's steely gaze never wavered as he blocked the attack with a single finger. He countered with a resounding backhanded slap that propelled Yamato across the space. Though his anger simmered, confusion flickered in his eyes. Within moments, he was at Yamato's landing site, his hands lifted, ready to strike, empowered by both Armament Haki and Conqueror's Haki.
Who's-Who's face contorted; he muttered under his breath about Kaido's palpable wrath. Yamato was thrown uncontrollably through the air, noticing too late the enlarged mace raised by Kaido, now bearing down upon her. The chill of dread set in as fear spiked.
"Roaring Bagua!!!" Kaido exclaimed as he unleashed a devastating hit.
Yamato crashed into the ground, a deep crater forming from the impact as debris erupted around her. Her white fur began to fade, reverting to human form amidst a flow of blood from her mouth and nose. Her body was battered, bones nearly crushed. Yet, in a half-conscious state, she clung to life.
During the onslaught, Yamato found a breakthrough, confronting life and death head-on. In the most critical moment, she instinctively used her innate strength as a shield. Such a remarkable talent ran in Kaido's bloodline. If only she didn't have her quirks, Kaido would have gladly nurtured her into a formidable warrior.
Lifting her up by the collar, Kaido demanded, "Tell me again, who are you?"
