Chereads / Frieren: The Dark Mage's Diary / Chapter 69 - Magic Blooms

Chapter 69 - Magic Blooms

As Damian had foreseen, that curse spread a plague that reached every part of the city within a few days.

Even nobles were diagnosed with the plague. To treat a large number of patients, the church priests were very busy.

Some of the mages who mastered healing spells went out into the streets to help those in need.

The nobles were basically all professionals with strong bodies and resistance to diseases. Occasionally, the young and old who fell ill received priority treatment from priests and mages.

The effect of the treatment on the disease that spread like a plague is very remarkable. Many recovered enough to know that they would not die in the following hours.

Common plagues basically do not threaten cities.

Nobles did not care at all about the safety of common people.

The slave market in the southern part of the city has been blocked by soldiers because it was the outbreak site.

The population of the slave market was also moved to the north of the city.

To prevent these people from escaping, the owners personally ordered the dispatch of elite soldiers to protect them.

The guard camp is not far from the slave camp built by Damian, about ten kilometers away.

This area is a mountainous region, over 100 kilometers long from east to west and 40 kilometers from north to south.

Apart from a few military castles, there is not much population in the mountains, despite being close to the royal capital.

Fortunately, Damian had bought a lot of food in advance, allowing the slaves to eat for half a month, so there was no need to worry about food shortages for the time being.

On the third day of isolation, several patients appeared in the slave camp, and Damian used treatment techniques on them.

These healing spells were the ones Damian had learned and had evolved from just the basics. Frieren had also been helping just to see if she had improved in this type of magic that interested her so much.

A few months have passed since then.

During this time, Damian studied magic, expanded his inventions in his workshop, and made sure to try to get the slaves to recover enough to be ready for the heavy work they would be assigned.

To create magic, one must have intention and ability. Frieren was a mage who also helped him a lot in his magical research to increase both their healing abilities.

During this time, he also created more common puppets that were helpful for the weaker people, taking care of the harder work and leaving the more meticulous work to humans.

Frieren was not interested in Damian's ambitions; she believed this was still a waste of time because eventually all these people he had bought would die, and nothing would be worthwhile. But Damian wanted to end slavery and let the heirs of these people eventually become his people.

The inventions Damian had in his possession were each enough to make a person rich. Having all this required management, and that would eventually lead to having a unique place to belong to.

It's okay to travel, but history would forget them, and the only thing that would endure would be their surnames. Damian's power would endure throughout history if he gave the necessary attention to his territory and created puppets responsible for management.

Now that Damian had become interested in these things, he knew he would need at least a hundred years to build his fief, as he was interested in it, and another hundred years to establish his dominion.

Also, the world should only know the surname of his territory, and all its members should never look at his face. This would give his family an air of mystery, leaving the doubt of who leads it; it would not be at all common for others to know that Damian had achieved immortality.

Knowing that he would live for many years, he would not let himself be known as the ruler of his territory; everyone would only recognize him by his aura and strength.

"How do you see me? My nickname from now on was the dark magician of the storms of the north, a great title for my unreachable destructive magic." Damian showed his magical robe to Frieren and said to her, "If you're interested, I can make you a similar robe."

"I won't use something like that." Frieren refused to wear a robe, as people would eventually forget about her.

"I'm going to check on the camp."

Frieren watched as Damian walked away and said, "I still don't understand why you're doing this. I know you feel nothing about helping those people, but you still keep doing it."

Looking at the manual Damian had made for her, Frieren shook her head, feeling a little strange.

...

The plague did not spread in the slave camp. Damian met a very prominent mercenary whom he had known since childhood and asked him to take half of his men to escort them to his territory.

Damian planned to stay and see if he could buy some sick slaves at a low price to increase the population of the territory.

He brought his identity seal and went directly to the slave market camp.

The plague in the camp had spread on a large scale, and about a tenth of the slaves were infected with the plague.

Many of the guard soldiers eventually got infected with the plague by being in contact with them.

Locked in the camp, many slave traders were also infected with the plague.

Seeing that the situation in the camp was worsening, these slave traders were also very worried.

They wanted to kill sick slaves to reduce the source of infection, but many of these slaves had families to take care of.

Killing slaves could lead to slave riots and could also lead to the intervention of the church.

Just as the slave traders were in a dilemma, Damian appeared at the camp gate.

Due to Damian's noble status, he met directly with the garrison captain guarding the camp.

After hearing what Damian said about his intention to buy sick slaves, the mercenary captain did not directly refuse and asked with some confusion, "A nobleman buying sick slaves, does he need to investigate a bit about necromancy? To study necromancy, you must report to the Mage Association. Only with the permission of the Mage Association can you conduct experiments on that type of magic that should be prohibited."

Damian shook his head and said, "My companion and I study healing magic; we want sick slaves to improve our experience."

Just to lend credibility to his words, Damian cut his left arm and, with his right hand, healed the wound.

Seeing that Damian could release healing magic, the mercenary captain made a new request. "Seven soldiers from my brigade have been infected with the plague, and two of them have died. As long as you are willing to treat my soldiers, no one will block your entry and exit to the slave camp."

As long as there were no infected slaves, there would be no more infected victims.

After hearing the captain's request, Damian immediately agreed.

"I can do it." With the support of the garrison, Damian quickly became familiar with all the slave traders in the camp.

The slave traders were very happy to hear that Damian was going to take the sick slaves.

In the current situation, to reduce losses, the slave traders even allowed Damian to take the relatives of the sick slaves for free.

As all the sick slaves boarded a giant manta ray puppet that was one of Damian's to move his people, he looked at each of them with great interest in his eyes. "If they consider me a god, I won't deny it. I'll need more than hope to be able to dominate human evolution in the future."
