Chereads / Frieren: The Dark Mage's Diary / Chapter 56 - A Total Struggle

Chapter 56 - A Total Struggle

The demonic aura surged as Calmadios hovered in the sky. The demonic glow gave a fearful sensation to his demonic armor. At the same time, a plentiful and brutal thirst for blood spread slowly through his body.

His terrifying pressure caused Damian's heart to beat even faster.

This forced Damian to release eighty percent of his mana pressure, rivaling even that demonic pressure that seemed capable of ending the entire world. The two puppets withdrew, the Divine General's crown spun, and his body lit up with a much greater power, giving him greater adaptation to the environment.

Boom!

Damian was solely focused on the battle; he couldn't see if Elaine had withdrawn and didn't care because if he died here, nothing else would matter. That's why he rushed again against that gigantic demon, accompanied by his two puppets. He waved his hand, this time surrounded by a compressed blue electric aura, before fiercely striking Calmadios.

However, when Calmadios saw Damian's fearsome attack, a mocking gleam shone in his eyes. So, he didn't move at all, allowing the electric attack, which could easily crush an entire mountain range, to land on his muscular body.

Boooom!

The impact cleared the clouds behind the barrier. However, Calmadios didn't budge at all. In fact, there wasn't a single sign of destruction on his armor. After which, he showed a mocking smile as he looked at Damian before his gaze turned more threatening.

His turn had come, and Calmadios extended his finger, also covered by that blood armor, before waving it against the void.

Oohhhh!!!

A demonic light shot directly from his finger. All that energy flew towards Damian, who immediately ordered his Divine General to take the impact for him as he retreated.

"If that's all you've got..." Calmadios didn't know what was wrong, but it seemed to him that Damian was hiding something that he hadn't noticed until now.

These thoughts were before he saw a figure reflected in his eyes at a tremendous distance. Moreover, that figure held something shiny that produced a blast moments later, colliding with his ongoing attack.

Damian, who had lost the upper half of his clothing, had unleashed a small display of his most hidden power, something he had rarely used and would only increase from now on.

"What are you hiding? I know perfectly well that you're hiding mana; why not go all out from the start?" A slight expression of annoyance appeared on Calmadios' face. Knowing that Damian was underestimating him, he moved four of his six arms before gathering enough mana to unleash a very elegant move.

Pum!

Calmadios had the advantage; he knew he was physically superior, so he would use that power to crush Damian to the point of leaving him without the spirit to battle.

At that moment, in tune with the corrupted blood and mana, a devastating force made the surrounding air very hot. Once that power was brought into the world, Damian was forced to retreat once again as his puppet took over.

But at that moment, Damian stopped retreating at a certain point. Then the lightning in the sky began to gather around. At the same time, the lightning on the ground spread everywhere, eliminating the remaining demons that were still alive.

"Are you accumulating mana?" Calmadios was startled to see Damian accumulating the lightning.

Fortunately, Calmadios realized this before the power became too devastating. Before that attack was loaded against him, a sea of blood sprouted behind his back.

But Damian didn't stand idle, seeing that Calmadios was about to take a more aggressive offensive. He moved his hand before the lightning could move towards him and cause him trouble.

The lightning on the ground was flooded by large waves of blood. "The great awakening..."

When Calmadios saw Damian's hair eventually turning white, he knew things were getting even more complicated than expected.

"That summoning is getting more annoying." Calamidos thought as he saw the Divine General becoming more powerful and his attacks beginning to hurt him.

Boom!

But something unprecedented happened: the lightning moved under the ground, impacting against the barrier covering them, and this caused the demons hiding behind another barrier to be eliminated without leaving anything behind.

At that moment, the barrier covering them disappeared, and in its place, the moonlight began to illuminate all the surroundings that previously seemed to be in darkness.

"The clouds, they're in contact with my power." Damian showed confidence, knowing what he was about to do.

"You'll die nonetheless, despicable human." Calmadios shouted, unable to shake off the two summons that were growing in power over time.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Damian watched as Calmadios managed to block his increasingly powerful attacks before his gaze became even fiercer. Shortly after, he took a deep breath before slowly closing both eyes. This caused, shortly after, a bright line to emerge between his eyebrows before slowly parting.

Those black marks on his face lit up even more, increasing his pressure and releasing his power by eighty percent.

When Damian increased the pressure of his power, Calmadios could feel it, so he knew that if he didn't end this now, things would really get very bad.

The aura around Damian's body felt even heavier. Quickly, the sledges on his body became even larger.

Oooommmmhhh!

Damian had never released so much power from his body. Subsequently, a ray of light full of dark light and a lightning bolt suddenly shot forward.

That ray of light contained the fundamentals of darkness, fire, and other elements that Damian had mastered. Being far below Calmadios, all the attacks were directed towards the sky, showing great displays of power.

That ray of light penetrated the empty space instantly. In the blink of an eye, it had reached where Calmadios was. That impact collided with his chest.

Boom!

A dazzling, bright light spread along with a wave of energetic assault. However, shortly after, that light gradually diminished. After which, it was seen that Calmadios was still alive. But this time there was a bloody crack in his armor's chest.

When Damian saw that Calmadios' armor could be penetrated with that level of strength, he knew how to defeat him.

"You're strong, but as I said before, if you want to take my life, it will cost you more than just time." Damian muttered as he waved his sword, now infused with a demon-slaying aura.

Calamidos lowered his head to look at the crack in his chest. Then, the expression in his eyes became extremely somber. Clearly, he was extremely furious that Damian had damaged his armor. After all, this object was granted to him by his emperor, and any damage to it was a source of humiliation for them.

"You should have used all your power in that last attack." The smile on Calmadios' face completely vanished.

Immediately, he took a step forward before his body appeared immediately in front of Damian, as if he had teleported. Finally, he moved his hand before fiercely attacking Damian, who used his puppet to lessen the attack's power.

Rooaaarrr!!!

The Divine General lunged forward, intending to attack Calmadios with a fierce advance. However, at the moment of impact, the bloody light split the Divine General's body in two.

Damian seized this opportunity to retreat. But that powerful and erosive onslaught affected us even at a considerable distance.

After pushing Damian back with a single palm strike, the killer aura exploded in Calmadios' eyes. Clearly, he didn't want to prolong the fight. His body moved before it reached him again. Then he swung his fist before a monstrous power aura spell opened.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The two figures in the sky clashed violently once more. However, it was clear that Damian had currently fallen into a disadvantage given the physical advantages of this gigantic demon. After all, he was not only facing practically a giant but also someone who had powerful armor that was hard to penetrate with common attacks.

Indeed, even though he had used eighty percent of his strength earlier, he couldn't do much damage to Calmadios now. On the other hand, Damian had to be extremely cautious in dealing with the attacks of this gigantic demon. Considering it more deeply, if it weren't for him being accompanied by two powerful puppets, he would likely have been gravely injured long ago.

Despite that, he was still in very bad shape.

Boom!

Another violent clash occurred. Damian felt a sweet sensation rising in his throat before a mouthful of blood flowed into his mouth. But this didn't stop him; on the contrary, he became much more brutal as time passed.

"You have very powerful magic. If it weren't for us opting for hand-to-hand combat, I'm sure you would have caused me much more damage than now. Unfortunately, I'm not interested in keeping an enemy with such potential." Calmadios looked at Damian, who had remained standing despite his fierce attacks.

The murderous intent in his eyes became richer after he spoke. However, just as he was about to attack, a strong golden light suddenly burst behind him. Although it was quite powerful, it could barely hurt him. Therefore, he simply smiled indifferently. Then he clenched his hand before forcibly breaking the golden light that was bothering him.

"With such insignificant strength..." Calmadios laughed and ridiculed this sudden attack launched by Elaine. However, before he could finish laughing, a figure resembling that of a girl suddenly appeared in front of him.

"You really don't know your own limits, little fairy."

She held a golden staff covered by a mysterious layer of light. Calmadios' eyelids shrank right after she spoke. He was about to step back when he realized that the staff had been suddenly launched in his direction. Then it pierced the crack at lightning speed.

Crack!

The armor, which could withstand a full attack from a mage like Damian, had now been gravely damaged. Immediately, black blood dripped from the tip of that long staff that had suddenly turned into a golden spear.

"You!"

The great pain radiating from his chest instantly caused Calmadios' expression to change drastically. Immediately, he threw a punch before the delicate figure of Elaine flew backward. She couldn't dodge that attack, so upon receiving such an impact, her body flew backward like a meteorite.

With a fearsome gleam in his eyes, Calmadios looked at Elaine, who had flown near him. Immediately, he quenched the desire that sprouted in his eyes. He clenched his fist before Elaine could regain control of her flight, and an attack was fiercely aimed at her.

When Elaine saw Calamadios' attack, she gritted her teeth gently. She channeled a magic spell, summoning courage to counter that attack with strength.

However, before she could make a move, a figure suddenly appeared in front of her in a ghostly manner. Subsequently, a low growl sounded before Damian returned the impact.

Boom!

The surrounding space became even more chaotic after those two forces collided. Damian's body seemed to have suffered a strong blow as he spat out a mouthful of blood. Meanwhile, his arm was slightly twisted, and the terrible pain radiating from it caused cold sweat to fall from his forehead instantly.

"Damian..." Elaine was surprised when she saw the madness Damian had unleashed.

"Haha, what a touching scene. Since you want to protect her, I'll kill you right in front of her!" When Calmadios saw this scene, the smile on his lips became even more brutal. Then, his body glowed before disappearing in a peculiar manner.

"Watch out!"

At the moment Calamadios disappeared, Damian's expression changed drastically. Then, he hurriedly grabbed Elaine. However, just after Damian embraced her, Calmadios had already appeared behind her. Then, a sinister laughter sounded before an attack filled with a monstrous demonic aura mercilessly landed on Damian's back.

Boom.

Damian spat out another mouthful of blood. With Elaine in his arms, his body quickly fell from the sky. After this, both landed heavily in the mountain forest.

"Haha."

"Calmadios was laughing heartily. Taking the opportunity, he was utterly ruthless in his attack. Then he gestured with his hand before numerous torrents of demonic auras formed. Finally, they streaked across the sky like lightning before crashing mercilessly.

In the mountain forest, Damian was the one carrying Elaine as they dodged the attacks miserably.

Throughout, Damian made sure Elaine wasn't harmed, deflecting all the attacks, but when he glanced down, he saw Elaine had an open wound on her stomach, so he stopped.

The horrific barrage of attacks caused the ground beneath them to crack. Damian rolled to the side. Currently, the skin on his back is a complete mess. Yet he gritted his teeth against the pain.

"That damn bastard." Damian breathed in a cold gulp of air before forcibly suppressing the dizzying sensation in his mind.

"Why do you risk your life?" Elaine asked, looking at Damian's worsening condition.

"If I can't even protect my dear sister, how can I call myself a powerful mage who will destroy demons?" Damian looked at the cup of the sacred fountain, then at Calmadios, who was now being pummeled by General Divino, and said, "Drink it all; I'll finish that demon."

Damian had suffered severe injuries this time.

"No..."

Elaine wanted to refuse, but her strength prevented her, and she could only watch helplessly as Damian forced her to drink that water.
