"Arghhhhhh!!!"
Boom!
A beam of light fell from the sky at a terrifying speed, massacring numerous orcs who were preparing to join the battle and leaving them lying on the ground.
Not everyone died; Damian's attacks meant that some would die directly, while others would lie on the ground agonizing.
Some mages from the enemy side could be seen being attacked by allied mages; all of them had very good skills, but few could match Damian in precision.
Many demons were not very intelligent; they were all evil by nature and could not understand human judgments made in each of the situations they found themselves in.
Fortunately, Damian had adapted his body to all conditions and knew that if magic was not the solution, he could use other methods, like wielding his sword without any problem.
Also, he did not want to use too much of his power because in situations like this, large-scale spells could inadvertently harm allies.
Damian had discovered that facing enemies in a war was different from facing them one-on-one.
When Damian eliminated a mage, he shot a lightning bolt that pierced the earth, gravely and accurately damaging the orc in front of him.
Orgrim tried to get up from the ground after the lightning bolt hit him, but Damian had approached him with great speed and swung his sword, cutting off the fingers of his left hand.
"Asaahhhh!!!"
Bloodied with blue blood, Damian swung his sword again, ruthlessly piercing the heart of the orc who couldn't understand how a human could be so strong.
By allowing enemies time to react, Damian knew he was giving them a chance to strike back. So, plunging his hand into the ground, he released numerous lightning bolts that split the earth and made the monstrous wolves stop advancing.
In just one day, Damian had gained a lot of combat experience, so much so that now it didn't feel strange to take an enemy's life. He had passed that first phase and now he was aware that if he had trained to take lives, he could also die at any moment.
Unfortunately, living with that awareness didn't affect someone as passionate as Damian, and knowing that this was the best he could do at a moment like this, he would live without regrets.
Damian, who had killed the orc commander, looked around and saw how humans were being slaughtered by the enemy and vice versa. The feeling of being in a situation like this was not at all pleasant.
"Damian, we need to support the cavalry."
Knowing that the battle was not over yet, Damian waved his hand and numerous magical runes appeared on the ground where magically controlled soldiers emerged and began to fight against the orcs.
"Are you alright?" Luther took the shield that the orc was holding, and although it was damaged, it could still be used.
Damian continued to generate magical circles around him that shot some lightning bolts, which moved like serpents, at his enemies. Then he moved his hands towards the camp and a huge fireball shot out like a meteor towards the cabins in the distance.
Boom!
Before the orcs in the camp could organize an effective formation, they saw numerous lightning bolts moving towards them, and seconds later a huge fireball fell on them, incinerating the surroundings.
Immediately, they were filled with despair, screaming one after another, and opted to flee to save their lives, consumed by panic.
But when they realized that the surroundings were covered by a barrier of lightning bolts that roared loudly, they all knew it was too late. Damian mounted a war horse that had no one riding it and advanced towards the orcs who were getting closer with increasing urgency.
Clang! Clang!
The scouting cavalry followed Damian and hurried into the camp, cutting and killing them all. In less than half an hour, all the orcs in the camp were massacred.
War is always a matter of life or death!
Especially the Northern War involves the racial survival rights of humans and demons.
The war between the two sides is crueler: even soldiers with lower combat effectiveness generally do not surrender but fight to the last breath.
Damian cleaned up the battlefield and wiped out the entire enemy squadron today, only capturing some wounded orc soldiers.
After the battle, Lieutenant Colonel Marvin dismounted his horse and asked Luther, "How are your casualties?"
"I lost a third of my soldiers, and many more were injured."
"Although they are an infantry squad, they need to learn the basics of horse riding. I noticed that most of the casualties were caused because they fell off their horses."
Seeing Lieutenant Colonel Marvin's careful observation, Luther smiled bitterly and said, "We are infantry; we are not prepared to fight these battles with drastic changes in formation."
What Luther said was true; his brigade was not trained to carry out the formations that Marvin demanded to defeat the enemy, which is why many died at the beginning of the battle.
"The horses are the problem; they are not trained to fight these types of wars and carry those armors."
Marvin, who had seen the demons flying away, looked at the rising dust. "We need to move."
Damian's Seventh Squadron had not directly participated in this confrontation; right now, they were carrying supplies that the fortresses and they themselves needed.
Especially the war supplies that were needed day by day. But it is true that without an order from Baron himself, it is impossible to take many liberties right now.
Luther only has the rank of brigade captain, and the army rank is similar to Damian's. If the two parties do not have direct affiliation and do not control each other, their forces cannot integrate properly.
But after Lieutenant Colonel Marvin arrived at the fortress in the rear lines, the situation changed immediately. With his higher rank and having Baron Harden's confidence, everyone could mobilize.
Unlike Damian, who was a young mage with no authority beyond his squadron, Luther also did not help much, but the situation with Marvin was different because he could legally kill anyone who disobeyed orders.
After winning the battle, Commander Marvin seemed very happy. He waved his hand and said, "Today we fought well; everyone will receive a good reward!"
According to convention, the total annihilation of the orc squadron should be worth a high-grade credit.
However, there were many soldiers and officers participating in the battle. After more than a dozen officers were divided, only a small part was given to the lower-ranking soldiers.
According to the regulations of the squadron that Damian led, the merit report documents must be made public and subject to supervision by base soldiers and officers.
The merit report documents of Lieutenant Colonel Marvin have been released. In this battle, Damian obtained four major merits in total and a considerable amount of gold.
Not only was his research of utmost importance, but also killing numerous mages.
The surprise attack mission was a complete success, and many rewards were obtained for killing numerous soldiers, eliminating the orc commander, and freeing numerous soldiers controlled by magic.
Including all these merits, Damian had many gold coins and dozens of magical books that were given to him, not to mention those merits that he had not used since he began fighting in this part of the north.
Once a war breaks out, outstanding officers can easily accumulate meritorious services.
Other officers of the Seventh Squadron also achieved some accomplishments; Luke received a small merit, and Luther also received a good reward in addition to their participation in the reconnaissance mission.
Marvin also issued orders to strengthen the walls and clean up the battlefield, ordered the destruction of farmlands and wells, the burning of houses, and the migration of people living in nearby villages that had not been attacked.
...
The way they had won did not convince Damian; he was very impatient, but when he received information a few days later, he understood what had happened.
"The Barons in the first half to the east were massacred by demons; they could not withstand the continuous attacks and have been killed in battle. It was reported that several more villages have been massacred, messengers reported seeing a demon king general."
"The demons have been mobilizing more intensely elsewhere; here on all sides, it seems they have ignored the fact of having this outpost and destroyed other fortresses outside of this battlefield."
"The deaths are estimated in the thousands; there are no survivors, and other cities have retreated their armies to magical barriers."
