Chapter 57 - Letter

[Yukinoshita Yukino's POV]

–flew!

As I unlocked the door to my apartment, I stepped inside with weak steps.

While I was making my way to the sofa, I flicked on the light, and the room was lit by the gentle glow that it produced.

"Umm~…" With a heavy sigh, I settled myself onto the sofa, curling up into a ball and wrapping my arms around myself for comfort. Resting my head on my knees.

I let out a quiet exhale, feeling the sofa's fabric comforting against my tired body.

"I feel weak." I whispered into the room's silence.

The tiredness belongs more to mental exhaustion than to my physical state.

"But it was fun.... or not." I mused aloud.

Is this how a date is supposed to be…? I am certainly not sure.

No, even with my limited understanding of dating. The events of the day didn't quite fit the mold of what I imagined a 'normal' date to be.

But then again, when does anything involving him ever turn out to be normal? I thought with a wry smile, the corners of my lips quivering slightly.

Lost in thoughts about the events of the day, my eyelids began to droop, shuttering, slowly drifting towards sleep…

Suddenly, a familiar voice pierced through my thoughts.

"Cute."

?!! The unexpected interruption jolted me awake.

"..." Subconsciously, I scanned my surroundings for the source of the voice, and I found no one nearby.

It's just my imagination. I concluded.

"Now he is not even letting me catch a wink peacefully." I muttered with a dejected tone.

He truly is a despicable person.

?...? Then, remembering our last conversation today, I retrieved my handbag, which I had thrown aside earlier when I sank into the sofa. Completely unlike me.

"When did he even have time to write something like this?" I muttered, pulling out a letter from my handbag.

"..." I pondered silently and held the letter in my hands, toying with it between my fingers, but not yet opening it.

"Hm-uhm, I wonder how he ended up picking the hobby of putting a pen on paper in this day and age... for a lazy bum like him."

Was it the second time? No, counting this, it would be the third.

I mused, recalling previous instances where he had pulled similar tricks with Totsuka and Zaimokuza.

I couldn't help but think that it wouldn't be the last time, either.

"So, I don't have a choice, I just need to get used to it." I said to myself, finally deciding to open the letter, remembering what he had said when he passed it to me.

"Open it when you get home. And yeah, don't worry, it's not the thing that you are thinking about." I recalled his playful and smug expression as he handed me the letter.

I wasn't thinking of anything.

Shaking my head, I pushed aside my 'unrequired' thoughts and began to read

======

Hey there, Yukino…

Yeah, it's not a love letter, as I said before. No, don't curse me yet, I am still not done.

Anyway, I hope you reached home safely.

Don't worry about me, I will probably be at home by the time you read this letter.

I wish you had a wonderful date with me, or at the very least not an unpleasant one.

I had a blast.…. well, probably. Guess, I wouldn't know since I wrote this letter before the date.

Hmm, on that note, let's do this once again in the future.

.

Oh, if you want to blame anyone for this letter, then blame yourself.

And this is all I could come up with, since you still refuse to share your contact number.

Okay, enough of my rumbling. Good night. Sweet dreams.

See you tomorrow at school.

======

As I read the letter, I was able to vividly envision his expression and the intonation of his voice.

What was going through his head when he casually addressed me by my first name?

Um, setting the letter aside for the moment, I couldn't shake off the peculiar tingling sensation in my chest.

What was it, exactly?

That familiar yet unsettling feeling surged within me once more...

But why now?

Ugh... that fool.

Closing my eyes once more, I let out a frustrated sigh.

But from the very beginning up until now, there's something undeniably strange about him.

Despite the short time we have met, why does it feel as though we have been acquainted for much longer?

It's as if he can decipher me effortlessly, like an open book.

Strange indeed…

Infuriating, to say the least.

"And there is Yuigahama too..." I uttered aloud, the mention of her name adding another layer to the perplexity of it all.

Does she harbor any romantic feelings for him?

Her behavior around him does seem peculiar at times.

But whether she holds any feelings is not something I concern myself with, as it has nothing to do with my involvement.

And as for her decision to remain in the Service Club, that will be determined tomorrow-the final opportunity I am offering her.

I just hope that if tomorrow marks our final farewell, it doesn't conclude on a sour note.

I have grown accustomed to people entering and exiting my life, but he... he is the real problem.

The frustration in my voice was palpable as I continued. "And it seems like my sister really did take a liking to him."

He should tread carefully if he truly desires the peaceful life he often speaks of.

Yet, I see no effort on his part to achieve that goal.

Instead, his actions seem to distance him further from his lifelong dream with each passing day.

And I am sure he is well aware of it.

[Hachiman's POV]

"Ugh, my ears are so itchy." I said as I plucked my ear.

Anyway, by now, she should have read the letter.

I just hope I can make it alive tomorrow.

…..I will, right?

"Aha…! Maybe I should have shown some restraint."

I cursed out loudly.

"Hachiman, you want some beating…!" A shout from a woman came from the stairs down.

Sh*t…!
