Cedric blankly looked at the two huge, identical basilisks in front of him.
Rather than their colors, they looked exactly the same. One had shimmering red scales while the other had pale blue scales.
If Cedric had known that by 'work' Marcus meant this, he definitely would not have followed him here. But now, what could he do other than cry over spilt milk? The two basilisks started closing in on him.
Cedric quickly took a fighting stance and dodged the incoming attacks. The flaming breath of the flare basilisk gave him burns. He had never felt so much on edge since the last war against the demons. Now, he felt like he had returned to those times.
The frost basilisk didn't make a move, as if to let its partner have all the fun. Cedric, even though he had confidence in his skills, could not help but be on the losing end. His strength was not enough to fight toe to toe with this monster, and his sword did not even scratch its scales.
Quickly, he was cornered and pinned down by the flare basilisk. When Cedric thought he was done for, a beam of laser struck the flare basilisk's head, blasting away its skull. Its hold on Cedric loosened as it slumped and fell down. Cedric too did not have any energy left as he slumped and fell down.
Seeing its partner fall so easily, the frost basilisk reacted radically. It jumped out of its place and ferociously moved towards Cedric, trying to end him in one fell swipe.
Marcus didn't want to use too much energy dealing with these basilisks, but now that his mana reserves were exponentially larger compared to what he had a month ago, he decided to go all out with this one.
Seeing Cedric's sorry condition, Marcus knew he had to first save him. Marcus built two rock golems out of the surrounding rocks. These golems tanked the attack for Cedric.
At this point, Cedric could hardly keep his consciousness. Marcus didn't like to use his lasers and golems together since they used up a lot of mana. But since Cedric was in a much worse condition and Marcus had sufficient mana, he decided to do it anyway.
Marcus's golems tanked the attacks of the frost basilisk pretty easily. Even if the frost breath did little to freeze them, they were made of rock and wouldn't be affected by ice.
When Marcus used to fight them in the past, they would work together to fend off Marcus, which made it very challenging for him. Even with their tiny lizard brain, they knew that Marcus was a formidable foe.
Before the continuous freezing and melting would weaken the rocks severely, leading to the destruction of the golems. But this time, they had let their guard down because of fighting a weak opponent. Marcus felt bringing Cedric here was the correct decision.
He could not help but think of it gleefully after impaling the frost basilisk with a few stone spikes. Looking at the struggling basilisk, he decided to end its suffering by giving it a final blow.
With a burst of laser, its head was blown off. Finishing off the basilisk, Marcus looked at the unconscious Cedric.
Carrying the passed out Cedric, Marcus decided to head out.
