Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The aftermath

Rye wondered if he still had intentions of killing her when he continued to hover when she suddenly watched him drop the sword in his hand.

The sword had just landed on the ground, when she watched Klaton do the same, shocked to suddenly see him fall to the ground, unable to break his fall.

She instantly scrambled to her feet prepared to distance herself away from him while he was still unconscious when she froze.

Glancing back at him to confirm that he was completely unconscious before she slowly walked back.

Surprised to see the person she had been so afraid of, someone who had been willing to kill her lying at her feet, with a sword right beside him.

'I could kill him now!' The thought was unexpected but at the same time, she couldn't bring herself to toss it away.

He had given her his blood which meant that he had control of her life.

'For all I know, he could ask me to forever be his sex slave! He killed everyone in the village, it's obvious how cold-hearted he is!' Rye thought to herself trying to come up with important reasons why she had to kill him as she slowly reached for the sword on the ground.

Reluctant at first, but the moment her hand touched the heavy blade still coated with blood, she tightened her fingers around it and lifted it, placing the tip against Klaton's neck.

"I-I need to kill him," she stammered under her breath, yet no matter how much she tried to plunge the sword through she realized that she couldn't bring herself to do it.

"I CAN'T!" Rye screamed, tossing the sword back to the ground.

"I-I just can't!" She painfully swore, angry at herself for not being evil enough to kill someone who had been prepared to do the same to her.

For a few seconds, Rye stood over him, staring at his face before she finally decided to move.

Her left arm still badly ached and she feared it was wounded, but the rest of her body was mostly okay.

There were small burns on some parts of her legs and her face but she didn't care as long as every part was still functional.

Rye left soon after conscious of the fact that more soldiers were bound to come to the village soon.

She didn't care about Klaton and slightly hoped that he was caught, something that would ensure her future safety.

The first thing she did was go around gathering small pieces of food in a bag before leaving the village with hopes of finding another that wasn't too far away.

'I can't walk on the main path," Rye figured, knowing that anyone who caught sight of her would immediately know where she was coming from.

After planning, Rye took the back path the one that Misha had painstakingly explained to her along with the main path that led to the village.

The village was deathly quiet, akin to a ghost town and the heavy stench of blood lingered in the air.

It hadn't been long since Rye left when Klaton finally decided to move.

There was no grogginess in his movements and nothing that showed that he had been previously unconscious even if his skin looked deathly pale.

He had merely fallen to trick Rye and had expertly kept the dagger in his left hand, prepared to use it the second he felt her put any sort of pressure on the sword.

"I would have preferred to kill her!" Klaton grumbled under his breath as he slowly got to his feet, his eyes colder and darker than ever before.

All of the people he called brothers were dead and the only reason he still had for living was 'REVENGE'

'I'll kill every RED if that's what it takes!' He mumbled to himself as he moved closer to one of the two horses that remained, untying it and jumping on the saddle.

In seconds, he was riding it out of the village, prepared to abandon it after he had gotten far enough.

The soldiers were bound to come looking but considering that they had sent two lieutenants, Klaton was sure that they wouldn't make any moves for a while.

The village was even more ghost-like after that as dead bodies were still sprawled out in the center, with not a single person alive.

A long while passed before Mino finally stirred.

A hot searing pain shot straight through his skull the moment he gained consciousness

But that couldn't beat the pain of trying to open his eyes and being unable to. In front of him was nothing but darkness, even if in front of him he could see vague images.

His right eye was completely dark while his left eye although was able to see the light, could see nothing more than shadows of light.

"I'm-I'm blind," he mumbled to himself in absolute shock.

"IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF YOU HAD KILLED ME!" Mino screamed into the space around him.

What was a Santor with wings without eyes? Taking his eyes was almost the same as taking his wings. Something that Mino might have preferred.

He couldn't cry and the pain was enough for him to be unable to think of nothing but the pain he felt and the man who caused it.

But above all, Mino felt FEAR. He had promised the king that he could deliver a Yoret to him, in exchange for more resources and land for the Santors.

It meant that his kinsmen would at least have a place to call home. It was a decree the king had promised in front of witnesses, something Mino was sure he wouldn't be able to go back on.

'Now! He won't agree and he might even kill me,' Mino realized seeing as how he only had one arm and his vision had also been taken.

"I'm stupid! I'm thinking of all these things and I might not even make it," Mino mumbled aloud to himself again, considering that he was still bleeding heavily from where his arm had been severed from his shoulder.
