Vritti was in an unpleasant shock, which separated her from Leena. She just could not stand Leena's explanations.
Just to prove her wrong and be right, Leena had committed a grave mistake. It was already worse, but what was worse, was that Leena did not even realize it.
She still believed that nothing was wrong with her and everything would be just fine with Vihan, which was soon to be proven wrong.
Days passed, but Vritti did not wish to talk to Leena, and Vihan made it - two of them.
Vritti did not wish to talk to her because of her ignorance and self-sabotage, whereas Vihan wished to talk to her but did not. He was waiting for Leena's approach.
Yet during his waiting period, he did not overlook the distance between Leena and Vritti. He saw everything and turned more eager to talk to Leena, asking her about what separated the two inseparable birds.
"If you're worried about her, why don't you go and talk to her?" Ridhan suggested, sitting beside him in the cafeteria. He was glaring at Vihan constantly gazing at Leena, who was not sitting in her usual place, but alone.
Vihan answered Ridhan's question with silence and exhaled deeply and heavily, with gloomy eyes. "You can't just sit here and wait for her to come. What if she's waiting for you to talk to her?"
It wasn't true. She was busy thinking about the trouble between her and Vritti, which took all of her attention away from Vihan and his gloomy-looking face.
But Vihan did not know that.
He listened to Ridhan and convinced himself with his words, staring at Leena for a few seconds before he approached her.
She was busy in her thoughts like a still picture, not even noticing him sitting before her. It worried him even more.
What was going on which was affecting her like that?
He did not cower to ask that as well, repeating himself until she had woken up from her haze with a shaking head.
"Are you okay?" He worriedly questioned, giving her the eye of the gardener, who was scared to see his favorite plant wither away.
"Vihan! Where did you come from?" A smirk appeared on her face, ignoring the question he had asked. She was taking her usual form, confident and coy as ever.
"I just came!" He answered, swaying his eyes away from her still contact, astonished by the quick alternation in expressions.
"How are you?" She further questioned, watching his muscles twitch before her, like always.
He answered with the usual and went on to ask about her weary head, and she altered the smile from her face into a dull expression.
A foggy silence spread between them, coloring the surroundings with the white of the fog, deepening the fear in his heart.
He was scared! He did not want to cross the boundary as he already had, but now the arrow had left the bow.
"It's okay if you don't wish to talk about it. I was just worried." Even though he wanted to know the reason behind her misery so badly, he decided not to stress her, regarding the distress on her face.
"Yet, you came so late." She spoke, once again altering her demeanor, leading him in another direction.
He felt captured by her words. It made him feel as if she was waiting for his approach, which quickly led him to feel guilty.
His emotions and mind were not at the place that always happened when he was with her.
"I just-- I just was waiting for you. You said you'd come and talk to me yourself." He uttered, wishing he had not unpleased her.
"Is that why you were ignoring me?" She questioned, prompting him more astounded. "No!" He boomed, adding, "I was not ignoring you, I swear."
He fell short of words after that, but quickly rejoiced with his head, "I just didn't want to displease you."
"So, you're here to please me now?" A smile perked up her face. The kind of smile that pierced through his heart.
He could not answer that question.
"Don't make that face. I'm just teasing you." She laughed, overwhelming him once again.
She was laughing. He hadn't seen her laughing for the past few days. That is why he felt relieved and proud of himself that at least he had returned the smile to her beautiful face.
"I'm glad you came to talk to me." She spoke further, "I have been too busy to punish you."
"Punish me!" He stuttered. He had not forgotten that he was yet to be punished for his behavior. He was counting the days for it to happen. It was the only way to be with her once again.
"I have to go for now. My class is about to start. Meet me after the college." She stood up, grabbed her necessities, and added before she went, "And next time, don't ignore me. I don't like that."
"I was not ignoring you!" He quickly boomed, watching her walk away. He wanted to make her believe that he was not ignoring her, but he did not get the chance to do so.
And even though she meant her words, she thought she was just messing with him. But to him, he assumed he had displeased her once again.
Just how careful and devoted you are to think that way?
The thought of displeasing her kept him on his toes the whole day. He kept detesting himself for making another mistake.
Why do I keep making mistakes? He kept asking himself, even when they were on their way to her house, which didn't go unnoticed by her.
But she didn't say anything. She simply discarded it as not her problem, because now that she had slept with someone else, it should be easy for her to stop stressing about him.
But it wasn't true. She was just lying to herself and she continued, until his weary appearance forced her to ask, "What is wrong?"
