The ground shook beneath us as the second dragon emerged from the shadows, its massive wings unfurling with a gust of wind that nearly knocked me off balance. My heart pounded in my chest as the realisation hit two dragons.
No one had mentioned two. This was supposed to be a hunt for a lone rogue, not a pair of fully grown beasts.
I glanced at Ruvan, whose eyes were wide with disbelief. "Two of them? Captain, we're not prepared for this!"
His words were true, but I wasn't about to let panic set in. We had come too far, and turning back wasn't an option. "Hold your position!" I barked, trying to keep the fear from my voice. "We take them one at a time. Stick to the plan."
The soldiers hesitated, their eyes flickering between the two dragons as they slowly advanced, their low growls vibrating through the air.
