I was utterly lost in thought, the voices around me nothing more than a distant murmur. It had been two days since Lydia and I had our heart-to-heart, and her words, her fears, and her laughter echoed in my mind, drowning out everything else. I didn't want to get married, not yet, and the thought of it sent a ripple of panic through me.
"You are not listening, Aurelia," Lise's voice snapped me back to reality, her hand on my shoulder grounding me. "We are talking about the rogue demon attack in the human realm."
I cleared my throat, embarrassed. "Sorry, I wasn't listening. Can you continue?"
"Rogue demons are transforming more and more humans into demons who don't have control and are dangerous. We should get a team to get rid of them, don't you think?"
Lise's eyes were filled with a seriousness that demanded my full attention. I paused, considering the gravity of the situation.
