The afternoon sun was beginning to dip below the horizon as the final bell rang, its chime a signal of release. I gathered my belongings with a sense of relief, eager to leave the confines of the school and the weight of Lydia's presence behind.

The day had passed in a blur, the hours marked by the ticking of the clock and the monotonous drone of lectures. But Lydia had remained silent, and for that small mercy, I was grateful.

As I stepped outside, the cool air was a welcome contrast to the stifling atmosphere of the classroom. Lise was waiting for me, her usual bright demeanor dimmed by concern. "Well, see you next week," she said, her voice tinged with a hint of sadness.

"Next week?" I echoed, confusion furrowing my brow. Had I missed something important? Lise's expression shifted to one of disbelief.
