The hallway leading to the castle's guest rooms was long, dimly lit, and eerily quiet. It was an odd contrast to the chaotic dinner we'd just survived.
Lydia and I walked side by side, her hand brushing against mine with every step. My thoughts were only half-focused on where we were headed; the other half was utterly distracted by the way her dress clung to her in the flickering torchlight.
"Why are you staring at me?" Lydia asked, her tone amused but laced with suspicion.
"Because you're stunning," I replied honestly. "You always are."
Lydia blushed, a faint pink creeping across her cheeks. "You're impossible, you know that?"
"Only for you."
She rolled her eyes, but I could see the small smile tugging at her lips. We reached the door to one of the larger guest rooms, and I pushed it open, letting her step in first.
