As we walked through the long, winding corridors of Lydia's castle, the faint clinking of silverware and the soft hum of voices from the dining hall ahead made me realise how hungry I was.
My stomach growled quietly, and Lydia glanced over at me, amused.
"What do you think we're having tonight?" I asked, trying to distract myself from the gnawing hunger. "I'm hoping for something with meat. I've been craving a good steak."
Lydia smiled. "Knowing the cooks, it'll be something fancy roast meats, vegetables from the royal gardens. They've been experimenting with some kind of spiced sauce lately. But... I could ask them to whip up something simpler for you."
I shot her a look. "I can handle fancy, you know. Just... nothing too delicate. I need food I can sink my teeth into."
She chuckled softly. "I'll let them know not to go too light on the portions."
