The dragon-turned-woman's sharp, golden eyes bore into me, and I instinctively straightened up, careful not to make any sudden movements. I was trying to think of a response, but the weight of her gaze, and the fact that her dragon baby was still happily snuggled against my neck, made it impossible to think straight.
Ruvan, as always, had no such hesitation. "You can, uh, turn into a human?" he blurted out, eyes wide. "That's... cool."
The woman, still radiating an air of immense authority, raised one perfectly arched eyebrow. "Cool?" she echoed, her tone suggesting that she was only just entertaining his comment for lack of anything better to do.
I shot him a look that screamed *shut up*, but Ruvan didn't seem to notice—or maybe he just didn't care. He was too busy being starstruck by the fact that a dragon had just shapeshifted into a human before our eyes.
