Chapter 10 - Enemy general, I have defeated

The dark clouds dispersed, and the full moon once again projected its radiance onto the borderland. Moonlight poured through the gaps in the leaves onto Daon, illuminating his blood-stained knife.

Drip, drip...

Blood drops kept falling from the corner of his clothes. Bathed in blood, Daon lowered his head. His curved sword was inserted into the back of the wizard, a pool of blood was spreading.

There was nothing much to say. The panicked wizard was suddenly attacked. In his haste, he used magic to counterattack, shattering one tree after another. But the assailant didn't approach, he used radiance magic debris to break the man's leg from a distance.

Daon Light hailed from a pure mage background, he understood these spellcasters too well. After breaking his leg and leaving him to writhe in pain on the ground, he went up to him and ended his life with a single sword stroke.

Whoosh---

He drew his sword and shook it, casting a line of blood. Daon bent over and pushed open the Radiant Stone Hood, staring at the terrified face of a middle-aged man.

"Just as I remember, most wizards are scholars and aren't adept at fighting. Even on the battlefield, they need the protection of warriors."

It was quite normal, Radiant Stone Magic puts the emphasis on power. He closed his eyes, and the corners of his mouth involuntarily curled upwards again.

"Magical power and focus are both increasing. It's confirmed, just like seizing life, the wizards mainly enhance their intelligence."

Unlike in games, what influences strength is physical fitness, magical abilities, and sensory abilities. Based on the nature of his kills, Daon's gains varied.

He glanced back; the flames in the forest were spreading, burning the four corpses. Even with the advantage of terrain, this was his first time killing a knight head-on. This meant that Daon was capable of surviving in the borderlands, and wouldn't lose his life to some random foot soldier that suddenly sprang out.

"I'm still not strong enough. At least before I possess immense power, I need to improve my magical prowess, otherwise that Calian Fast Sword could easily break in two."

Daon wasn't satisfied. Holding his sword, he picked up the head of the Cuckoo Knight and started walking back. The sounds of battle were still raging, but his pace was steady, focusing on recovering his strength.

The Cuckoo was not a fool. The attack was launched only after ensuring the Calian Reserve forces were exhausted. If Queen Callyn's troops hadn't intercepted them, they would've rushed into the manor and started firing. Even if they only burned the granary, the manor would've fallen inevitably.

But Calia had already reached its limit. As for elites like Lani...

He looked back, the huge castle of Calia was hidden in the night, with sporadic bursts of fire visible.

They couldn't come out; there were more terrifying enemies dealing with them.

"This Calia is really deep," Daon murmured, speeding up his pace, still repeating that old saying:

"I will repay their sincerity with righteousness!"

He sprinted out of the woods, and from a distance, he could see the bustling manor. Soldiers from both sides were fighting to the death on the walls, occasionally, the glow of the "Calia Great Sword" could also be seen.

Arlen was lined up, cutting down the enemy one by one. The other troll knight, Polos, was blocking the door, his body full of arrows. He raised his foot to crush the enemies next to him into a pulp. The heavy crossbow and the catapult were flying, smashing those sturdy towers. The mages from the Azel classroom were fleeing in all directions.

From the frontline, it looked urgent, but actually, the area was narrow, and however many Cuckoos climbed up, they would all be slaughtered. Both sides suffered enormous casualties, and broken swords and spears were scattered everywhere.

Behind the manor, there was also a fierce battle. Over thirty cuckoo soldiers led by a knight were rampaging along the dirt road. They were holding up shields to form a battle formation, with fire pots and cuckoo radiance stones flying everywhere. On the opposite side of the cuckoos, there were a group of wounded soldiers, and a troll was waving a giant sword chaotically.

The scene was too chaotic, the road and the walls were littered with bodies. Daon couldn't spot the members of the Callyn squad for a moment, and it seemed that both sides were equally matched.

No, Calia was at a disadvantage, those fire pots had ignited the houses, and many soldiers were looking back anxiously. In this bloody battle, there was no time to count how many enemies were coming from behind.

Daon didn't hesitate, he tied the knight's head around his waist, reached out to catch a frightened warhorse that was passing by. Riding on its back, he turned its head around, took out the lance hanging beside the saddle, and smacked the horse's buttocks with the butt of the lance.

In this long night of blood and fire, I will lead the charge!

Clang!!

The huge swords collided, causing a pressure wave that swept away all the soldiers within several meters. The two knights each stepped back a few steps, staring at each other intently.

Mathews shook his somewhat numb wrist and seeing a few Cuckoo knights climb onto the wall, he sneered, "The city is about to be breached, don't you retreat back to your castle?"

"Heh, I could hold until I drop dead," Arlen raised his shield, but he felt rather anxious.

He didn't regret. In a situation where the military resources were so limited, it was impossible to send dozens of people to enjoy the breeze by the lake. But tonight, the Cuckoo's attack was too fierce, and the reserve team had been exhausted long ago.

Have they not chased those dead Cuckoos away yet?

Arlen unconsciously looked back and then hurriedly raised his shield.

Five Cuckoo knights directly pounced upon him, the great sword, long spear, and war hammer all attacked at once. Even if the Calian knights were a notch higher, they still hardly had a chance to fight back. The crossbows on the side were still firing non-stop, disturbing the counterattack from tricky angles.

"Humph, talk tough," Mathews sneered and shook his still numb hand, shouting to the surroundings, "Press on, entangle the Calian people, they can't hold out anymore!"

The Cuckoo soldiers were all greatly encouraged. They had no idea how many people were in the assault team. Standing on the wall, all they could see was the pincer attack, continuously condensing the defensive line.

"If those wizards were willing to take action, so many people wouldn't have to die." Mathews clenched his teeth, but he had to hold on. As long as this manor was broken, Calia would be completely out of the game, stranded in a lonely city. The dispute over Levienia would then only be between Cuckoo and the Academy.

"Captain, look!"

At this moment, a knight yelled from the side. Mathews looked up and saw an armored warhorse galloping from the castle side, his pupils immediately shrank.

Calian reinforcements are here? How is that possible, didn't they say...

The ominous thought only lingered for a moment, because he realized there weren't thousands of troops galloping over. There was only one knight, and he looked quite bedraggled, covered in blood, which left him flabbergasted.

"Where did this madman come from!?"

Clip-clop, clip-clop...

The rapid sound of horse hooves beat against the ground. The battling Cuckoos turned back in astonishment, only to see a white horse attacking from the rear. The lonely knight kept his lance level and, shockingly, plunged straight into the heart of the battle without hesitation.

"Kill!"

Accompanied by a thunderous roar, the lance impaled several men, the horse trampled people into the mud, Daon enthusiastically kicked the horse's belly, his eyes fixed firmly on the frontline Cuckoo knights, he charged straight through the crowd.

What!?

The knight was just about to cut off the little leg of the troll and was preparing to thrust his spear into its eye. Looking back, he saw a warhorse charging head-on.

Too fast, too fierce, combined with an unyielding momentum, the sharp spear was enlarging in his pupils.

Thanks to Torre's battle experience, he quickly turned to avoid the spear. Feeling a chill on top of his head, his helmet was sent flying, he then took the impetus of turning to swipe horizontally with his spear.

Thud!

With a muffled sound, the armored warhorse was hit and lifted off the ground, it neighed and fell over. Torre was no better; the inertia of the warhorse's charge all crashed onto his left hand shield, momentarily making him short of breath, his forearms swelled.

Who dares to ambush me??

He held up his large shield, and quickly identified who attacked him.

Daon was flying mid-air, he had already thrown the lance aside and held the curved blade from his back.

"Cut!"

A silver crescent moon rose in the sky, cutting off the spear that was thrust at him. He then focused his power on his left shoulder, using the momentum of his fall to slam hard on the edge of the shield.

Thud!

After killing Darligle, Daon's strength had increased again. This blow had even dented the shoulder armor. Torre, caught off guard, fell backward.

His toes touched the ground, steadying his figure. He widened his eyes, he had never seen such a mad-dog fighting style. Then he saw that blood stained man in front of him, the staff radiated a bright light.

Magic?

Radiant Stone Rapid Magic Debris!

Daon swung the staff wildly, like a machine gun, he propelled the magic debris. This would normally exhaust his magic power but, in the current situation, the volley lasted a few seconds.

Ting, ting, ting, ting...

Sparks continuously erupted, magic gravel bombarded the surface of the shield, creating countless indentations. It couldn't break through the shield, but the inertia kept pushing Torre back. The magic power seeping in caused his left arm to swell.

"Get off!"

The shield slapped, creating a strong wind pressure. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Torre drew his sword from his waist and was about to charge up to kill this strange magician. The leg that had fallen behind was suddenly grabbed by something.

A troll with a broken leg reached out his hand and held his lower leg. The powerful strength began to deform the armor. Before Torre could counter-attack, he was violently pulled back.

'So this is his trick?' The knight was thrown into the air as if he had understood something. It's no wonder why the other side wasted magic power to push him into the troll's range.

Bang!

The troll's hand swung up and smashed down, directly smashing a shallow pit into the ground. Protected by the armor, Torre was only dizzy. Just as he was about to cut off the troll's finger, a foot stepped on his back.

"You should be dead."

The cold words entered his ears, and in the next moment, all his consciousness sank into darkness.

Just like killing a chicken, Daon cut off the knight's head with a sword, then planted the hunting dog fang into the ground. He reached out to catch the airborne head, then took off another head from his waist, and so he held up two heads in front of his chest, his voice booming:

"The enemy general has been taken down!!"
