Chapter 26 - The Tournament (1)

"Now for the rules, you are not allowed to use your dragons breath, and the fight only ends when either your opponent is dead or unable to continue fighting. With these in mind I would like to point out that if you kill your opponent and with the duel it does not necessarily mean that you will pass the test later on."

"Now with that covered, form a line in front of me so that we can assign your opponents."

We quickly formed a row in front of the elder not wanting to waste his time, then once we had lined up he cast a spell that made a small floating flame appear over each one of our heads.

"pay attention to the flame above you, the color will change in just a moment when that happens the other dragon with the same color will be your opponent in the first bout."

All fourteen younglings present where shaking with anticipation, I patiently waited for my flame to change color. All of a sudden mine turned green, looking around my eyes fell on my opponent the red youngling that had been disrespecting my father at the start of the trial was to be my first dueling partner.

I grinned showing my rows of razor sharp teeth while staring him straight in the eye, he seemed to shutter momentarily before returning my gaze and lifting his head.

looking away from my opponent I lowered my head down to my sister who were still at my side looking at their foes, "Good luck and show no mercy. Your lives depend on it. Also from the way the elder worded the test I feel like we are being tested on the quality and control we have over our runes so give it your all."

Hearing me my sisters looked at me and nodded with determination in their eyes, seeing this I nodded my head in approval then looked up at the elder signaling that I was ready.

"Now that you all know who you will be fighting, are there any volunteers to go first?" the elder asked us.

Immediately I stepped forward eager to teach the young red dragon the price of disrespecting my family.

Further down the row Janara also stepped forward, the flame above her head was black. The same color as the flame above Corentines head.

'I hope that she will be alright from what I had seen both of them had formidable control over their mana, with both passing the first test with no issue.'

"Alright we have two volunteers, as I had you go first for the last test Valorian I will give the honor this time to Janara. All except Janara and Corentine join me on the observation platform above."

without delay the elder leapt into the sky creating a gale so strong it pushed all still on the ground backward several feet and threatened to through a few into the wall of the arena. Once we had recovered I pushed off the ground with my strong hind legs and beat my wings with all my might.

Ascending higher into the air I followed after the enormous elder dragon as he landed on the lowest floating island in the air around the arena.

As I landed I Apollonia followed closely behind me, then both of us lifted our heads to the sky to try and find grandmother. Off on another one of the floating platforms we caught sight of her massive form looking straight at us. Once she saw that we had seen her she nodded in approval, then looked down at the arena below.

It seemed that Janara and Corentine had already taken positions at either end of the large arena and were waiting for the elders command to start the match. Both of them shone in the mid day sun their stark white scales seemed to glitter in the light, Corentines red eyes seemed focused and ready for anything that could be thrown at her. Whereas Janara's Icy blue eyes seemed to emit a air of confidence like she knew that she had already won.

From what I had seen of Corentines run mastery, lets just say that it was much better than my own. Janara on the other hand, I had no clue but if her control over mana was consistent with that of her dragon breath then I would say that the two may be equals. This was bound to be an interesting match.
