Chapter 34 - The Owl

The two lead the way, followed by three useless men, Barbara clutching her laptop, Vico clutching the microphone, and Pete, pale and carrying the camera, trailing behind.

Watch him stumble and gawk, like a zombie on a rainy night.

Eugene thought this was a bad omen, as if he and others would open the underground research institute and emerge a pile of flesh-eating monsters.

He pulls out his double knife and makes two cuts in the wire fence. Sparks fly off in the rain, creating an X shape. Then he bends the wire to create a hole big enough for a wheelchair, and carries Barbara first.

Barbara gave him a nervous smile, then focused on her dark surroundings.

Junks are the empty shells of vehicles that have been stripped of their engines, spark plugs, batteries or anything else of value, and then piled into small hills by humans like corpses.

In the dark, the shadows of these black hills occupy every direction around them and look exactly the same in the distance from any Angle.

Neither Barbara nor Vico nor Peter had ever been to such a remote place in the middle of the night.

Any Gothamite knows what's out there in the dark, but some seek it out and some avoid it.

Eugene is keenly aware that someone is watching him. He looks up and, not far away, he spots a wanderer among the abandoned cars. She is watching herself and others from the empty cab through the non-existent window.

He didn't think anything of it until the woman started making strange noises.

 "Cooing... Goo goo..."

 "Bam!

Eugene immediately raised his hand is a shot, which stunned Barbara they, this without warning to kill, this is the original face of the mercenaries in the mission?

However, this in their eyes must be a shot, but the strange woman with an incredible posture to avoid, she like a boneless creature with a sharp neck down, head like retraction into the body, the bullet across her head.

The next time she emerges from the wreck, her wanderer appearance is transformed into a masked figure wearing round glasses.

As soon as she is out on the roof of the wrecked car, she is dressed in a black leather uniform with gold accents and inappropriate lace, like the dress hunting suit worn by aristocrats in the Middle Ages.

Round glasses on her head, like the eyes of an owl, looked down on Eugene and his party.

 "Protect them."

He dropped a word, pulled out two knives and jumped on the side of the abandoned car, and this strange person quietly opposite.

"I always thought their existence was just a legend...." Cindy, too, drew her weapon and stood in front of several men. "It seems like Sue said Gotham has too many secrets to hide."

Vicki, of course, doesn't pass up the opportunity. She immediately instructs Pete to hold up a small piece of sky for her with a poncho, and pulls out her notebook to record it by the light of her camera.

"So, Miss Cindy, I think you know the masked person across the street. Can you tell us who she is?"

Cindy glanced at her. She knew that the people Eugene was taking with him would not be simple characters in the parallel universe, but here, Vico was just an ordinary person, and excessive curiosity would inevitably kill her.

"All you need to know is that they're killers from a very old force in Gotham, and knowing too much can really kill you."

"That's all right. As a journalist, I'm prepared. Please tell me, tell the people the truth!"

Did not expect the threat of death, but like to touch the switch like Vicko, she immediately blushed, excited to ask, pressed her lips, eyes wide, pupils full of excitement.

Cindy shook her head, not sure if she agreed or what she meant, and recited a nursery rhyme that went viral in Gotham, rumored to have been said by any child playing on the street decades ago.

"Watch out for the Court of Owls, watching your travels all the time. Spy on Gotham City from the shadows, from the roof of a parapet. He's with you in your home, under your bed with you. Never say his name, or his claws will tear at your neck."

Vico froze for a moment, but the reporter's keen sense of smell made her write this down, and if she had the chance, she planned to research the history of Gotham and perhaps find something.

Eugene was one of the first to react, as a traveler in Gotham, a city of bats, in this kind of storm, hearing the cooing of owls, and realizing something was wrong.

This woman, masquerading as a wanderer, is the assassin of the Owl Court, Claw.

Until Eugene's time in the world, DC Comics has not explained the details of the Court of Owls mysterious organization, he only knows that it is composed of Gotham's oldest families formed a coalition, has been through various means to influence Gotham.

No one knows who they are, but all members wear white Night Owl masks and have a distinctive ring as a token.

Claws are assassins they've bred to take out political dissidents in the city.

Before the gang came to power, after the four families, Gotham actually experienced a brief period of owl Court ruling, but because of the struggle for power, they broke out internal disputes and suffered heavy losses.

Falcone and other gang leaders, in one fell swoop, drove the owls back into the darkness to hide.

Maybe the Bat or Falcone will know this level of information, but Eugene knows more from the other side.

Their origins go back even further, to the Stone Age, to the bird tribes, the Wolf tribes, the bear tribes, and the bat tribes, which are thought to be the origin of European civilization in the DC Universe.

Batman is descended from the Bat tribe, while the Court of Owls is descended from the bird tribe.

Most importantly, the members of the Owl Court, all brainwashed and controlled by one of their own priests, the Owl Court, all in their dreams, swore unconditional allegiance to the dark minions of Barbados, the god of darkness.

In a way, Barbados is the bat God of the dark multiverse, the Dark Dragon, the one true God, and they're not wrong about who they believe in.

Unfortunately, this God only wants to play with the light Universe, and doesn't care much about his followers, only to use it as a tool to throw away.

But this is no excuse for Eugene to relax, the claw appears here, which means that the court will soon know, and Barbatos will soon know!

The danger, then, will rise at a frenzied rate.

He must keep this claw here as long as possible, to delay the Court of Owls knowing.
