Chapter 9 - Dire Circumstances

One of the Blood Fiend launched its spear towards him in rapid fire. While the other charged at him with hunger.

Swosh Swosh

Echo as he sped up towards them, but was greeted by two blood spears, he didn't hesitate and spun around to avoid one spear, and parried the other with his sword, this made him pause his charge due to its immense force when he parried it, making a perfect opportunity for the other monster who charged to reach him to cause some damage.

His gaze was steady while staring at the abomination, he knows he cant beat the awakened beast in pure strength so he jumped right when it was about to collide with his body. And stood up on top of its head, he then stabbed it's back with his sword, but the stab was shallow due to its thick bone like armor around it.

That was enough for it to feel pain and it screeched.

'It's a shallow stab' Echo calmly thought, but his grin turned into a smile. This only took nearly a second though as his thoughts is stopped when the other Blood Spear Fiend sent another one of its spears towards him.

He kicked the blood spear fiend that was underneath his feet, and flipped backwards to avoid it. He landed on the pavement, and slashed the other one who was stunned being used as a platform, this time it caused a deep gnash on its body, furthermore, one of the blood spears that was supposed to hit Echo hit it instead, this didn't bother Echo though, and sent another slashed to the already wounded opponent. Causing it to breath one last time before it died.

Echo then proceeded to charge towards the other fiend who was also preparing to meet him, this Awakened beast even though awakened were beasts in the end, they are just driven by their instinct with no set knowledge on what good and whats right for them. So it continued its charge even though two of its kind lays dead in front of it.

As both of them were about to meet, Echo stepped towards its right with his sword outstretched and blood dripping from it, the fiend screeched weakly before finally collapsing. Echo even in his state of insatiable lust for battle knew that if he prolonged this fight any longer, a Fallen abomination will eventually stumble around here and smell the blood that painted the pavement, and as strong as Echo is, a sleeper cant ever hope beat a Fallen Beast alone.

Once the there was no enemy on site anymore, Echo's senses came back to normal, his memory still fresh on his head.

'It feels weird everytime I use it, even after 3 years the precious Echo felt the same.' He thought and looked at his hands for a long while, before quickly composing himself and gathering the soul shards of those creatures, he also dragged one of the beast inside another house a couple of blocks away to skin it and take its meat for later. Unfortunately before he can do that to the other 2 another monster showed up, swooped it with its talons and flew towards the sky, it was a Cursed Herald with a rank of Fallen Monster, as to why he didn't bring them all at once, the answer is simple Echo would've died and became prey of that Herald along side the other three beasts he killed.

"Well at least I got what I came for and some. I'll scout the area more for a bit and come back, I remember Sunny's entrance to the cathedral without alerting his dreaded roommate was on the roof right?." Echo turned back and after resting for a bit, climbed the side of the Cathedral to get to the roof.

Here he saw an opening, it was small but enough to fit a person inside. He entered it carefully as to not alert any creatures that dwell inside the cathedral.

'I'll just peek for now, and see if I can spot the entrance of towards the chamber.' Echo thought and went inside after a couple of seconds he stepped at the upper part of the cathedral.

Inside, Echo saw darkness enveloping the cathedral, as if no light had ever penetrated its walls and columns. But due to his enhanced perception and eyesight he can vaguely see some structure specially a nameless Goddess Statue situated at the upper part of the cathedral, He slowly moved his head to see another part of it but suddenly the hair on his nape stood up signaling him of something fast approaching. He immediately ducked as low as he could before anything reached his head, and not a second after he felt the wind brush up against his hair.

Swish

A sword of darkness was on top of his head barely missing it, and the one holding it is knight about two meters tall, an armor made of lusterless, anthracite steel. It's helmet was crowned with curved horns, lastly his armor is full of intricate engravings that can drive anyone into despair if they looked at it too long.

'Shit!' Echo cursed inside his mind and tried to form any semblance of a plan. Before he did thought the knight was already on the move.

It withdrew its sword and swung it downward towards Echo with deadly precision, Echo composed himself and stepped backwards to avoid it but is not so lucky this time as the blade drew blood, it didn't fully destroy his armor

but was enough to damage it deeply, it was bent and showed a deep slash running across his torso, thankfully it wasn't too deep as he stepped just in time or else he would have been sliced up.

'I can't even activate my Aspect, or else I'll be forced to fight and kill this motherfucker. But even with it, I'm not sure I can even scratch its armor.'
