Chapter 1 - Why am I even here?

"Fucking bastard!" She pushed me with all her might and ran away in tears down the street, making the heads of passersby turn.

When those heads returned to their place, they focused on me. The culprit in the riot.

The other girl next to me clung to my body, her breasts rubbing against my arm through my shirt. "Did I cause you trouble with Veronica? I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to. You believe me, right?"

This woman was a snake, and from what Daniel knew of her character, there was a 9/10 chance that she more than meant it.

But he wasn't stupid enough to say that, though.

"Of course not." I hugged her shoulder and went back to walking with her leisurely. "Veronica was always so dramatic; I'll talk to her when I get back."

"I think her name was Vera."

"Was it now? So, what did you talk about earlier?"

They slowly advanced in the same direction that Veronica/Vera was running, ignoring the judgmental eyes of the crowd.

Even without the commotion a row had caused earlier (Daniel is pretty sure now that the girl next to him was right; her name is indeed Vera), both of them were used to being looked at because of their good looks, especially Daniel.

Although the girl next to him seemed nice (Tiffany, was it? He remembered she was related to Vera somehow), he was always the center of attention.

His upright posture gave his tall, slim frame a chivalrous appearance, and with his silver-dyed hair and blue eyes, he looked better than any movie star he'd seen on screen.

Of course, this has made him a bit arrogant over the years, but is it his fault that people keep flocking to him?

23-year-old Daniel accompanied Vera's relative to her apartment and did not refuse her invitation for a drink.

Two hours later, Vera's relative moaned loudly as he still continued to slam his penis into her.

"I can't- I'm gonna"

Unfortunately for Daniel, he didn't get to hear her finish.

"Daniel LaRusso, 23 years old, high school graduate with no criminal record.

Earns a living from his sugar mamas, Dated 56 girls, made 100 to commit suicide? This is the first time I've heard of a higher number of suicides than dating. Wow."

To say that Daniel was confused would be an understatement. He held his head as he tried to sit down on the floor, which was somehow warm and cold simultaneously. "Where am I? Did you kidnap me?"

"As expected from a narcissist, do you expect random people to just kidnap you?"

"Can't say it didn't happen before."

"How about you let me introduce myself first and then decide if I'm a kidnapper?" He finally looked up and saw one of the more beautiful women he had ever met, and he met some other beautiful women.

The blonde's hair flowed past her ankles, and the toga she wore didn't do any effort to hide her voluptuous figure.

She blinked at him with her long, dark blonde eyelashes and opened, "I am Cecilia, head of the customer retention department at levels 9–6 world. And I am happy to announce that you are the newest candidate for our recruitment!"

"So.. You're like Heaven's tech support? I'm dead?"

"Not even close. Our pollsters show that one hundred out of one hundred and two of your acquaintances who committed suicide reported that unrequited love for you was the main reason for their suicide, the most recent being just a few minutes ago. These are statistics that are quite hard to find."

Daniel chuckled to himself.

"Why are you smiling? You're basically a mass murderer, no good place awaits you after death."

"Lucky you, Just for cases of... special talents like yours we established our program! Special benefits and a relaxed afterlife! Secure your place in heaven today!" Her voice became that of a saleswoman. "All it takes is completing a few simple tasks, and you can go back to your relaxed life knowing that endless happiness awaits you at the end! Sign up now!"

As she said the words, a thick contract floated in front of Daniel's eyes, along with a black fountain pen, awaiting his response.

"What program is this?"

"We support the right of every individual to end their existence. Unfortunately, our research has shown that more and more people from more and more worlds are applying to end their existence. At this rate, there won't be enough souls to populate all the worlds, and we'll have to disable a significant portion. Which means less faith power and... well, all kinds of things that have nothing to do with you."

"All we want is for you to use your special talent to... make people happy in different worlds, after that you can go back to your normal life right away."

" 'Make people happy' is one way to put it. What if I refuse, Can I go back?"

"Of course, no heavenly official acts under compulsion, however..." She crossed her long legs. "I do want to let you know that your current karma level is -8,940. Which means you can only retire to heaven after living at least 9 Bodhisattva reincarnations. Believe me when I say this isn't a picnic, You will probably choose to end your existence before the third incarnation and you will never get to experience eternal happiness, isn't it a shame?"

"Okay, I agree, but I want to be overpowered."

"You're a straight forward guy, huh? Unfortunately, the world has textures and balances, that cannot be violated like in the idiotic novels you read. But I can give you the option to choose between being born as a baby or taking over the body of a person who decided to give up his body in every incarnation, you can be a child genius and whatnot. You humans like attention, right?"

Daniel could go on clarifying things one by one for a long time, but he was so tired. It seems that just being in this place consumed the strength of his soul little by little.

He weakly lifted the pen in his right hand and signed his name carelessly across the entire page.

"Good choice" The goddess opened her mouth into a charming and evil smile in Daniel's blurred gaze. "Just a little warning, most worlds where people want to kill themselves are pretty dystopian. Good luck with the salvation thing!"
