DEVON'S POV.
" Do you guys think locking her up was the right thing to do?" I questioned, facing my brothers, keeping my expression as neutral as I could.
Both Dominic and Derrick both turned, throwing me a look of surprise. They were in absolute disbelief of my statement, just as I figured they would.
" Is this actually Devon speaking or a skinwalker inhabiting his body?" Derrick, the blabbermouth of us questioned with a mocking smile.
I rolled my eyes, an exasperated scoff escaping me, as the bastard chuckled mischievously.
" This can't be Devon, because the Devon I know only cares about getting into girl's pants. He doesn't give two fucks about their well-being," He added, bursting into incessant laughter like the idiot he was.
I felt the burning intent to lunge at him at that moment and beat him to a pulp but restrained myself, knowing that Dominic wouldn't be approving of that.
It wasn't that I viewed Dominic as my superior or anything, I just respected him because as much as I despised admitting it, he was the most reasonable one of us three.
While Derrick was still cackling like a diseased crow, Dominic continued to gaze at me with a raised eyebrow, and a slight hint of surprise in his eyes, indicating he was just as amused as Derrick.
" She screwed herself over. Wrote a letter and didn't keep to her words. Who does that?" Dominic asked, his eyebrows lowering, and flames emerging into his eyes.
I knew that was Phoenix speaking, and couldn't help but wonder why his wolf seemed just as pissed as he was.
" We both know she didn't write that letter and was clearly framed, but by who?" Derrick inquired and instantly the cream-headed girl I had flirted with back then in the class came to mind.
" The cream-headed girl had a mischievous smirk on after she told us Dawn was still sleeping," I pondered. " Do you think she was lying and had something to do with all of these?"
Derrick got up from the table he was seated on and walked up to me.
" I thought the same too. Dawn could truly be innocent in all of this. She doesn't come off to me as a crooked person. " Derrick explained, patting me on the shoulder.
We both concurrently turned to Dominic, noticing a series of mixed expressions on his face.
" Whether she is or not, it's none of our business. All that concerns me is the fact that she didn't do our assignments like she was ordered to, so she has to be punished for her disobedience. " He replied, his expression turning plain, and I couldn't help but let out a sigh.
He knew the truth but was still challenging it.
' Why?' I pondered.
He had blocked us out of his thoughts and the annoying and unfair thing was, we couldn't do that to him. He had unrestricted access to our thoughts at all times.
" Perhaps an elderly thing" My wolf, Winter suggested.
" But if I and Derrick's assumption is true, then we are punishing an innocent girl, don't you think so?" I demanded and Dominic gazed at me, still retaining an expressionless demeanor, as he reclined to his chair, majestically crossing his legs.
It pained me deeply to admit this, but his gestures, poise, and carriage made him seem so annoyingly noble and majestic.
I understood at that moment why more girls were after him than us.
" Is that jealousy I smell?" Winter inquired and like a volcano, immense rage abruptly erupted within me.
" Oh shut up!" I yelled at him before locking him out of my head.
" And since when did you brothers become good Samaritan and I, the devil?" Dominic asked, intently staring at us both.
" We didn't mean that brother, it's just—" Derrick tried explaining but I tapped his shoulder, stopping him.
" No, he's right brother, let's have the time of our lives punishing an innocent person," I said, glancing at Dominic before walking away from them, heading to the window and staring out at it as I wondered when I started caring about the brunette.
A long interval of dead silence swept by and I breathed out a deep sigh, millions of questions running through my brain.
Just then, a loud crash resonated through the room, startling us three.
" Seems our little kitten is awake" He commented before I heard him get up, open the door, and leave.
After hearing the door close behind me, I turned, and all that was there to see was Derrick, staring at the shut door with a puzzled look.
" Our... Kitten?" He questioned but I just ignored him and made my way out of the room, heading for where the girl was locked up.
" What is with you both and all of the attitude?" I heard Derrick ask, following behind me but I just ignored him and continued walking.
I arrived at the filthy, cramped up, hole dark cell where she was locked in and saw Dominic standing at the entrance, his hands in his pocket, his countenance still plain.
I wondered what the issue might be, and moved forward, beside him and the sight that hit me made me rear back in shock.
Dawn was on the floor, her mid-lengthed brunette hair looking wild, tangled, and rough. Her uniform which I noticed to be well-ironed this morning was now dirty, rumpled, and unkempt. Her grey eyes were bulging wide open, and darting around the place in a manic manner.
She was continuously moving backward to the wall, deliriously trying to pave a way into it and escape. Her hands were trembling, her shoulders shuddering and her breathing ragged.
" What the hell is going on here?" Derrick yelled from behind us, surprised with a hint of fear fully evident in his tone to which I wasn't surprised for I was just as bewildered.
" What is wrong with her?" I inquired turning to face Dominic only to realize he was just as oblivious as I and Derrick were.
" I get it now. She is petrified. " Derrick answered me.
" But by what?" Dominic questioned and I scoffed, shrugging.
" Oh, I don't know, maybe by getting locked up in a dark, creepy, cell by you?!" I snapped at him, immediately noticing the dark intensity of his glare on me but I remained unruffled. I held him in respect, not fear.
" Devon stop arguing with Dominic over a wench. She did something wrong and he's simply punishing her for it," Derrick reminded me and I froze in surprise, realizing I was actually arguing with my brother because of a random girl I knew nothing about.
'What was this?' I wondered. Dominic wasn't exactly in the wrong, as the subject of her innocence was merely an assumption— so why did I feel so agitated by the sight of her getting punished?
I watched as Dominic stepped into the cell, moving closer to the deranged girl who was now maniacally scratching herself all over.
The moment she sighted Dominic, she began to cower backward, vehemently whispering incessant and unintelligible words, as she trembled all over.
" St-st-stay away!" She stuttered but Dominic didn't stop moving till he got to her.
He grabbed her and raised her to her feet, firmly gripping her down as she wildly struggled against his hold, and to our absolute amazement, pulled her towards his chest, and into a warm embrace.
My eyes widened at the sight before me, my fists and jaw tensing up, my breath becoming shallow and ragged, as the event unraveling right before my eyes brought me to a single realization:
I was beginning to care for this low-life just as much as my brother did.
