Chapter 21 - Chapter 21. Nexus...[3]

Raven's POV...

As I gradually began to regain my awareness, my mind slowly started to stir from its dormant state, like a gentle morning breeze rustling the leaves of a sleepy forest.

The fog of unconsciousness lifted, and I became cognizant of my surroundings, my senses awakening one by one, like a symphony of instruments tuning up for a grand performance.

My eyelids, heavy as leaden curtains, creaked open, and I was met with a blurry, unfocused world, like a watercolor painting in the process of drying.

As my vision cleared, I took stock of my physical form, my consciousness spreading through my body like a warm, golden light. I felt the gentle thrum of my heartbeat, the soft rise and fall of my chest, and the subtle tingle of my nerve endings, all of which served as a reminder that I was alive, that I was still a sentient being trapped in this confined space.

My gaze, now sharp and focused, swept the room, taking in the stark, isolating environment that held me captive. The walls, a dull, institutional gray, seemed to close in on me, making me feel like a specimen in a laboratory jar. The air was stale and musty, heavy with the scent of confinement and fear.

And then, my eyes landed on Riyan. He lay motionless on the cold, hard floor, his body limp and lifeless, like a discarded puppet with its strings cut.

A jolt of concern, like a spark of electricity, ran through my veins as I took in his still form. I felt an overwhelming urge to rouse him, to bring him back to the world of the living.

With a surge of adrenaline, I struggled against the restraints that bound my wrists and ankles, the ropes biting into my skin like a snake's constricting coils. The effort was futile, but I had to try, had to attempt to free myself and Riyan from this prison.

Undeterred, I turned my attention to Riyan, my voice, hoarse from disuse, calling out to him in a gentle, urgent whisper. "Riyan, Riyan, wake up...!" I pleaded, my words hanging in the air like a misty veil. At first, there was no response, no sign of life, and my heart sank, heavy with despair.

But then, like a miracle, Riyan's eyelids fluttered, his chest rising and falling with a slow, shallow breath. His gaze, unfocused and cloudy, drifted towards me, and I felt a surge of hope, like a sunrise breaking over the horizon.

As he slowly regained consciousness, his eyes locked onto mine, and I saw a flicker of recognition, a spark of awareness that we were in this together, that we were both trapped in this isolated room, bound and helpless.

...

As Riyan and I stood there, our chests heaving with exertion, our minds racing with the gravity of our situation, we simultaneously arrived at the same conclusion: our first priority was to escape from this precarious predicament. Our eyes locked onto each other, and in that fleeting moment, we both acknowledged the peril that surrounded us. The air was thick with tension, and the weight of our captivity hung heavy over us like a dark cloud.

Riyan's voice, laced with urgency, pierced the silence. "Raven, we need to get out of here as quickly as possible." His words were a clarion call to action, and I responded with a curt nod, my eyes never leaving his. The unspoken understanding between us was palpable, a silent pact to work together to extricate ourselves from this dire situation.

With a determined glint in his eye, Riyan proposed a plan. "Maybe I can burn these ropes with my affinity of flame, if that man hasn't used a Mana Seal on me." His hands, steady and sure, began to weave a intricate pattern, and a small, pulsing ball of fire erupted on his palm. The flames danced and crackled, casting flickering shadows on the walls around us. With a swift, economical motion, Riyan directed the fire towards the ropes that bound him, and they began to smolder and char, releasing wisps of acrid smoke into the air.

As the ropes disintegrated, Riyan strode towards me, his eyes burning with a fierce determination. He reached out, and the flames on his hand licked at the ropes that constrained me, releasing me from my bonds. I felt a surge of gratitude towards him, my heart pounding in my chest as I flexed my newly freed limbs.

Together, we patted down our pockets, only to find that our phones and personal belongings were nowhere to be found. Riyan's hand instinctively went to his wrist, and his eyes lit up with relief as he found his watch still securely fastened. He glanced down at the time, his brow furrowed in concentration.

"According to my watch, it should be dawn," he announced, his voice laced with a sense of hope. A thought began to take shape in my mind, and Riyan's next words gave it form. "It's been around six hours since this incident. Everyone should be searching for us by now, Raven. It's the perfect time to escape – that man is quite seriously injured, which is why he didn't cast a Mana Seal on us, and it's dawn, too."

As Riyan spoke, a sense of possibility began to unfurl within me. We had a window of opportunity, a narrow gap in which to make our escape. The darkness that had shrouded us for so long was beginning to recede, and the first light of dawn was casting a hopeful glow over our situation.

I exclaimed to Riyan, my voice laced with a sense of urgency and trepidation, "We can't possibly confront that man head-on, not in our current Situation. Our only viable option is to escape, but the daunting question remains: how do we breach this Door...?" The door, a sturdy, cold slab of metal, seemed to mock us with its impenetrability, its surface adorned with intricate locks and reinforced with thick, unyielding bars.

Riyan's eyes sparkled with a hint of determination as he responded, "Don't worry about that I have a plan to shatter this obstacle. I will use the power of my affinity, channeling it to create a concentrated beam of energy akin to a laser.I direct this beam to create a small, yet sufficient, hole in the door, allowing us to make our escape." His words were laced with a sense of confidence, but I could detect a faint undertone of trepidation, a nagging doubt that lingered in the recesses of his mind.

"But," Riyan continued, his voice tinged with a hint of apprehension, "if we are in main base of that Man's Organisation, then we would be doomed, we will no chance to escape here." The weight of his words hung in the air, a palpable sense of foreboding that threatened to suffocate us.

I sought to reassure him, my voice steady and resolute. "Riyan. From the amount of time that has elapsed since our kidnapping, I am confident that we are still within the confines of Qara City. And consider this: our captor is injured, which means he cannot travel far or fast. It is likely that he has ensconced us in this isolated room." My words were calculated to instill a sense of hope, to remind Riyan that we still possessed a glimmer of advantage in this desperate game of survival.
