Chapter 3 - Prologue III

After his order was prepared he went to grab it and then all the mayhem started...

As William reached for the hot dog, his hand accidentally knocked into the condiment stand, causing the sauce to spill all over the vendor's cart. With a muttered apology, he quickly moved to help clean up the mess. But in his haste, he didn't notice that the wire from the condiment stand had come loose and was dangerously close to the wet ground.

As the hot dog guy bent down to pick up the fallen wire, his hand made contact with the exposed metal. A sudden surge of electricity jolted through his body, and he let out a pained cry before collapsing to the ground. Shocked gasps filled the air as onlookers rushed to the vendor's side, but it was too late—the hot dog guy lay motionless on the pavement.

In the midst of the chaos, William heard a mocking laughter, echoing in his mind like a sinister taunt. "It's all your fault," a voice whispered accusingly, the words ringing in his ears. Panic surged through William as he realized the gravity of the situation. He had inadvertently caused the accident that led to the hot dog guy's death, and now he was being blamed for it.

Without thinking, William rushed to the man's side, his hands trembling as he tried to check for a pulse. Panic gripped him as he found none, and he felt a wave of desperation wash over him. In a moment of desperation, he reached for the golden ring on his finger, knowing that it possessed the power to grant wishes.

As he pressed the ring against the vendor's chest, while acting as if he is giving him a cpr, he silently prayed for a miracle. With a surge of energy, he felt the ring's power coursing through him, and a faint golden glow only visible to him enveloped the man's body. Slowly, the man's chest began to rise and fall, and color returned to his cheeks.

As William stood amidst the chaos, his mind filled with conflicting emotions. The onlookers around him offered words of praise and gratitude for his efforts to help the vendor, but their voices seemed distant, drowned out by the taunting echoes in his mind.

"You used it," the mocking voice whispered, sending a shiver down William's spine. The laughter that followed was cold and merciless, a stark contrast to the warm expressions of gratitude from the crowd.

Ignoring the applause and accolades, William felt a surge of panic rising within him. He knew he had used the power of the ring to resurrect the hot dog guy, and now he feared the consequences of his actions. With each step he took, the weight of guilt and fear grew heavier, urging him to flee from the scene.

Without a word to anyone, William turned and ran, his heart pounding in his chest as he raced through the bustling streets of the city. The sounds of the crowd faded into the background as he focused all his energy on reaching the safety of his home.

As he finally arrived at his doorstep, he collapsed against the door, gasping for breath. The events of the day had taken their toll on him, both physically and emotionally. With trembling hands, he reached for the golden ring on his finger, feeling its power pulsating beneath his touch.

But even as he held the ring, William couldn't shake the feeling of dread that lingered in the back of his mind. The voice that had mocked him earlier still echoed in his thoughts, a constant reminder of the choices he had made and the consequences he now faced.

Closing his eyes, William took a deep breath and tried to steady his racing heart. He knew that he couldn't run from his actions forever, but for now, all he could do was wait and hope that he hadn't unleashed something far more sinister than he could ever imagine.

"I couldn't sleep after that," William admitted, his gaze fixed on the floor as he wrestled with the memories of the unsettling dreams.

"It seems like you're the only one experiencing those dreams and voices," Harry sighed sympathetically, taking a seat beside William and placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

Emily nodded in agreement, concern etched on her face as she settled down on William's other side. "Did anything else happen?" she inquired softly, her voice filled with genuine worry.

William shook his head slowly, his expression troubled. "No, nothing else," he murmured, a sense of unease lingering in his tone.

Harry nodded thoughtfully, his brows furrowed with concern. "Let's use it tomorrow," he suggested, a note of determination in his voice as he looked between his friends.

Emily's frown deepened at the suggestion, her concern evident. "Do you want to risk killing him?" she countered, her voice tinged with apprehension.

"He's already dying. If we don't do something, he'll die!" Harry argued earnestly, his eyes pleading for understanding.

Emily fell silent for a moment, her thoughts racing as she grappled with the weight of the situation. Deep down, she knew Harry had a point.

"We'll use it tomorrow," William agreed quietly, a mixture of resolve and uncertainty in his voice. With a heavy sigh, they all dispersed, each lost in their own thoughts.

As William lay down that night, he couldn't shake the feeling of dread that gnawed at his insides. The absence of dreams brought a fleeting sense of relief, but it was overshadowed by the lingering unease.

The next morning, William woke to the blare of his alarm, his mind foggy from a restless night. As he stretched, a realization dawned on him. "There were no dreams or nightmares last night!" he exclaimed, a glimmer of hope stirring within him.

His eyes fell on the ring, its once radiant gems now dimmed to nine. "Does this mean one gem is one wish?" he pondered aloud, the possibilities swirling in his mind. Determined to find answers, he made his way to their hideout, a lakeside farmhouse nestled amidst tranquil surroundings.

As William arrived at the lakeside farmhouse, he found Emily and Harry already there, engaged in relaxed conversation and laughter. A sense of tranquility permeated the air, a stark contrast to the turmoil raging within William.

"Am I the only one feeling troubled?" he wondered silently, observing his friends' carefree demeanor.

Before he could dwell on his thoughts further, Emily and Harry spotted him and eagerly pulled him into the midst of their gathering. Despite his reservations, William found himself swept up in the jovial atmosphere as his friends encouraged him to join the festivities.

"What exactly are we celebrating?" William inquired, unable to suppress his curiosity amidst the lively atmosphere.

"It's an end-of-the-world party!" Harry exclaimed with a grin, the mischievous twinkle in his eyes reflecting the spirit of the occasion.

William nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips as he realized the underlying intention behind the celebration.

After the lively festivities finally came to a close, leaving them all bone tired, William and his friends gathered around the couch, their exhaustion mingling with anticipation as they turned their attention to the golden ring adorning William's finger.

"So, I've been thinking," William began, his friends leaning in with rapt attention. "I've come up with a theory about the ring."

"I think each gem represents a wish," he proposed, his words hanging in the air as his friends nodded in agreement

"It seems to be the case," Harry and Emily nodded in agreement.

"So what now?" William asked, eager to make a decision.

"Let's start with something light, like asking for shares of big companies and such money," Emily suggested.

"I think you should ask for some really great powers, so that you can battle whatever the ring throws back at you," Harry countered, his voice filled with determination.

William listened to both of them intently, weighing their suggestions in his mind.

"I will wish for power, but which one?" he pondered aloud.

"Ask for necromancy powers! They're cool and scary," Emily chimed in excitedly.

"No, let's ask for something that makes you powerful from the get-go," Harry intervened, pushing Emily's suggestion aside.

William nodded, considering their advice carefully. "I can only think of one thing, then," he concluded.

Harry and Emily nodded in agreement as they watched William take a deep breath. With determination in his eyes, he clasped the ring tightly in his hand and closed his eyes, focusing on his wish.

The air around them seemed to crackle with energy as William's voice echoed softly in the room. Harry and Emily held their breath, anticipation building as they waited for the outcome.

Suddenly, the ring began to glow with an intense light, illuminating the room. Then, to their astonishment, it started cracking, breaking apart into fine powder. Before their eyes, the powder swirled around William, enveloping him in a shimmering aura of light.

And then the powder vanished inside William.

Harry and William felt worried and try to hold William but suddenly a unseen force pushed them aside.

They watched in horror as William vanished in front of their eyes.
