"Kayn? Son, are you okay?" Zerana was becoming increasingly worried since her son had a blank look on his face for the last few minutes without speaking or blinking. Just when she was about to wrap her arms around Kayn to wake him up from his stupor, he spoke.
"Mom…so you're saying that you, Clem, and myself are the only three left of our entire race? Even if Clem and I are just half Obsidian Void Dragon." Kayn asked with a shaky voice.
He could accept having a rare demon blood line, but being one of three left of a race? That was a huge burden Kayn wasn't sure he could shoulder.
"Yes, would you like an explanation before or after I explain your potential that you have from my bloodline?" Sighing for what seemed like the millionth time since this whole talk began, Zerana asked what her son would rather have explained first.
"Mom, why are you so calm about all of this?"
"Kayn, until you and your sister came along, it has been like this since I was just around 20 years of age. I understand where you're coming from, but I've had a lot time to get over and come to terms with it. Now then, I guess I will start with the bad news and proceed to the good."
Kayn could only stare at his mother's expressionless face and nod in agreement to her.
"As I said, I was around 20 years old when all of this happened. It was a mass extermination. We don't know where they came from, but our entire race was hunted one by one, until everyone but me was dead.
"We resisted as long as we could, we fought as hard as we could, but no matter what, it didn't make a difference. What we were up against wasn't just another race or powerful empire, they were actual gods."
"Gods?" Kayn tilted his head at this since he didn't really believe there were multiple gods, but there may be at least one god since his soul was transferred over to this world.
"Yes, gods, beings from the Celestial World. An unknown pantheon of gods somehow teleported to the Void Realm, they shouldn't have been able to though as they were all ascended beings. We stood no chance, even the elders at the peak of our race, and my own father who was the most powerful as the emperor only managed to kill three of the fourteen beings that descended before perishing."
Just with recalling these painful memories, Zerana had to close her eyes to focus her mind back to the present. She had suppressed these memories to her best ability and bringing them back to the surface was just as painful as it was when it happened.
"So, are the 11 still in our world? Are they still trying to find you?" Kayn asked with trepidation.
"Unfortunately, yes, they are still in this world and are currently still hunting me. The only reason they haven't found me yet is because I sacrificed most of my power to escape from them. Until you or your sister fully manifest your abilities and strength that comes from my blood, they will not be able to find us.
"Your father also sacrificed the greater part of his power in order to place a seal on me so that in the case my aura goes out of control it will not go further than a few meters from my body. The seal prevents me from transforming to my dragon form as well since that would announce to those with special senses where I am. As for you and your sister, we made preparations long ago to be able to hide your auras when you're older."
Zerana answered her son to the best of her ability while also trying to give him some hope for the future, but her slight deception was seen through easily by her son.
"So, while these 11 gods are still searching for you and it's been over 400 years, I'm guessing that they have hired others to look for you as well, right?"
"Yes, part of the reason your father is in the military is for access to the empire's information network. We have thwarted several attempts in the many years and many continents, but finally after we had been settled here safely for 35 or so years, we decided that it was enough to finally have children."
Kayn pondered on his mother's words as everything she was telling him sounded absolutely insane in his mind. He and his new family which he had already grown to love were being hunted from before he was even born?
'I must get stronger. I must figure out how use my powers to protect my family, especially my sister. I didn't have a sibling in my last life, but I do in this life. I feel my emotional attachment to her is even greater than to my previous parents. Maybe it's my brotherly instinct kicking in constantly telling me to protect her.'
As Kayn continued his thoughts silently, Zerana continued to look at him curiously, not knowing how to proceed from where she left off when Kayn decided to ask another question.
"Mom, how did you and Dad end up together then?"
A bright smile shown on Zerana's face. "That will have to wait until you ask your father, I can't take all the fun of explaining our exciting adventures to you. Instead, I will tell you about my bloodline and what it means for your future."
"Okay!" Even with all the emotions and thoughts going through his head, he couldn't contain his excitement towards learning his potential. Maybe it was part of the side effects being a child still.
"To start off with, Obsidian Void Dragons possess natural affinities for darkness and its counterpart elements. Our bodies possess strength that is only rivaled by the red dragons, durability only rivaled by earth dragons, agility and flexibility greater than wind dragons, and endurance that can rival any race in the world!
"Putting our body's starting point on the scale, I would say we are around a 9.8 out of 10 naturally. With some work, and a higher stage core, we can surpass the scale before we even get close to the peak of this world."
Zerana had a big smile as she said this because despite being one of the last three beings of her race, she was very proud of her race's heritage. Seeing the delight in her son's eyes and the smile on his face, her hope for her and her children's futures only grew.
"Your and your sister's futures are even brighter than your father's and mine. With our mix of blood running through your bodies, you have a great head start in order to be at the top of this world. However, with your intelligence, I'm sure that you will go above and beyond all of our expectations."
"I can't believe Clem and I have such powerful parents, but I'm unexpectedly feeling tired all of the sudden Mom. I'm feeling really tired and like my head is going to explode." Kayn said to his mother as his exhaustion had suddenly reached a new peak and an excruciating headache appeared.
He didn't know what was happening, but he felt like his brain was growing and he wanted nothing more than to close his eyes and sleep.
"See child, I told you that focusing too much on knowledge at such a young age is troublesome. I'll take you to bed so you can take a nap, after your nap I expect you to play with your sister for the rest of the day!"
Zerana stood up from the couch and picked up Kayn as he was starting to doze off already. She had never seen her son exhaust this easily, but she could understand since she had just dumped a lot of information and burden on him.
'Just how is Kayn able to comprehend so much knowledge at his age? This shouldn't be possible. He is bound to reach heights neither his father or a I could. Speaking of his father, this child is bound to be a trouble maker just like his father used to be…'
Zerana couldn't help but smirk as she brought Kayn to his bed and laid him down. He was already sound asleep by the time she had tucked him in.
