Chapter 19 - B (6) Departure at the end of the world

Xin stood by the door with a kitchen knife. Her hands were shaking.

She heard her mother's cry in the room. She called her father's name. Crying hard.

This was all the crying that Xin had heard these days, and the only one that made her heartbroken.

Her knife fell to the ground. It made a "clang" sound. Xin slumped helplessly by the door. She covered her mouth and cried bitterly.

"Mother..." Xin called at the door.

"Daughter, your father is gone." The voice came from the hoarse throat. It was coming from behind the door.

"Mom, how are you?" Xin asked choked with sobs.

"Those red things got into my body."

"Does it hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt."

Xin cried.

"Daughter, don't cry. This is what your father meant. I was going to go with him." Mother. "It's just...I can't let you go."

Xin understood that her mother might become silent after a while. She will be like those infected. He fell into a permanent coma and waited for death to wake him up.

"Don't come in to see mother. The walls, table, sheets and floor in this room are all covered with red bugs. Besides, your father doesn't want you to see him like that. Do you remember?" Mother.

 "I know."

"You stay with your mother. Talk to her behind the door."

 "good..."

Both sides of the door are crying. But no matter who it was, they were trying not to let the sound come out.

"Mom will never see you start a family in this life. You have to take care of yourself. Money can't be used now. Maybe the world will be better in the future and you will be happy. Father and I saved money for you. Later, you Get it in the room. The password for the card is your birthday..."

"Mother. Are you okay?"

"Yeah." My mother coughed several times.

"Actually, that's fine. I originally borrowed the money to buy this house. Now I don't have to pay it back."

 "Mother..."

"You have to live well, you know? I can tell your father if I leave. You are still alive..."

There was a crashing sound from behind the door.

"Mother...Mother..." Xin shouted. Slapping the door. But he didn't have the courage to go in and take a look.

There was no more sound behind the door.

Xin knew that her mother had fallen into a coma…

She burst into tears.

She recalled various scenes of her father and mother. Tears kept flowing. The night comes and goes. When the sun appears again. She wiped away her tears and stood up.

"Mother, I'm leaving you..." He said to himself painfully.

"I'm going to find Bo Kang... He should still be at home." Xin decided. She walked to the bathroom. I washed my body for myself. Then I put clothes and water in my backpack. Before leaving, I saw the bowl in the kitchen sink. Yesterday, there was porridge cooked by my mother for myself in that bowl.

She walked to the living room. I picked up my father's cell phone. She suddenly remembered a number.

She tried dialing the number.

Busy tone.

Dial again….

The phone call went through.

"Hello..." the other party said.

"Shi Jun, it's me. Xin."

The other party said excitedly:"Xin, where are you? Is everything okay? I don't dare to go out at home because I'm afraid you'll call me."

"I'm okay." Xin lied. She adjusted her tone so that Shi Jun would not feel sad.

"I'm relieved that you're fine. The situation here is very bad..."

 "kindness."

"Are your parents okay?"

 "kindness."

The other party seemed to feel something.

"I don't know where my parents went. When I came home, there was no one at home." Shi Jun.

Xin couldn't help crying.

 "What's wrong with you?"

 "fine."

"..."

"Don't, I know." Shi Jun. "Be good to yourself. Your family also wants you to be safe."

"I know. I just can't help but feel sad." Xin.

"Where is your...fiancé?" Shi Jun asked.

"I'm going to find him. He didn't come. Maybe he's at home." Xin.

"It's getting more and more dangerous outside, you don't know." Shi Jun said anxiously: "It's best to stay at home."

"But, I don't want to stay here." Xin cried out: "I don't want to stay at home. I don't want to see this place..."

"Then...I'll go with you. You wait for me at home." Shi Jun.

Xin has nothing to say. But hesitating.

"Two people are safer than one. Don't worry. You wait for me at home. Tell me your home address..."

Xin hung up the phone. She didn't understand why she let Shi Jun come over. Such a long journey is dangerous. She may be sad and needs someone by her side. But why did Shi Jun agree to her?

She curled up on the sofa. Looking at my mother's door. Keep wiping tears.

She was in a daze. Until the bell rang.

The door opened. It was Shi Jun. He took off his motorcycle helmet. Looking at Xin with a smile.

"I'm just going to be quick. Motorcycles are prohibited in Hemen City. But now this motorcycle that has been dusted for many years can be put to use."

Then he handed Xin a helmet.

"I'll send you to find your fiancé. If he's not here, you have to listen to me." Shi Jun.

Xin didn't move his head or shake his head. He just took the helmet blankly.

"Put these on. It will prevent your skin from being exposed." He took out a set of clothes from the bag behind his back. It looks like a motorcycle racer's costume.

"It's cool."

They went downstairs together.

The motorcycle is parked next to it.

"Tell me. Where does Bo Kang live?" Shi Jun asked.

"On Zhongshan Road." Xin.

They drove straight along the road to the city. Shi Jun carefully avoided those corpses along the way. Go further uptown. The road seems less spacious. Maybe it's because of the large population living in Shangcheng District. So there was a long queue of stalled vehicles on the road. Shi Jun turned the front of the car and moved slowly among the cars. But there was a burst of smoke ahead. The bus was blocking the way. And there is a place that can be passed over there. Also lying there was the mushroom-covered corpse.

"It seems that this road is dead." Shi Jun turned to Xin.

So the car turned around. Went through the alley on the side.

Walking through the twists and turns of the alley. The exit directly ahead is Zhongshan Plaza.

Pass through Zhongshan Square. We arrived at Zhongshan Road.

"Shi Jun, something seems wrong ahead."

Xin saw the colorful billowing ahead. The smoke filled the alley. I smelled the stench of roasting meat.

Shi Jun stopped the car.

That place filled with thick smoke. The square appears in front of you. In the square. A bronze statue erected in memory of Mr. Sun Yat-sen. There were piles of corpses almost reaching the height of the statue. They are stacked one on top of another. Arms and thighs were exposed. Male and female. Old and young. Some are wearing clothes. Some are * all over their bodies. …Snow-white skin and black sores overlapped….

The rotten smell was intertwined with the strong pungent smell in the air.

What is this for?

Xin and Shi Jun stopped. Looking towards the square from the alley. This is the nearest way. But now the way is blocked by these corpses.

None of the corpses here have corpse mushrooms. They may have just gotten sick. or. Some of them died outside. Some just fell into a coma.

A man wearing a yellow protective suit walked by. He held a spray gun in his hand. There were two others following closely behind. They are also wearing yellow protective clothing. Wrapped tightly from head to toe. Carrying a double cylinder behind his back. He held a long spray gun in his hand.

They walked to the pile of corpses. The three people stood in a straight line. Then aim the spray gun at the pile of corpses.

Raging flames spurted out from the spray gun. Those corpses may have been doused with gasoline. It instantly burned into a big fireball.

The letters "CM" are written on their yellow clothes. Neither Xin nor Shi Jun had ever seen such protective personnel.

"What should we do? Should we turn around and go back? Turn from another road. Or..." Shi Jun.

"Wait a minute..." Xin said. Touching Shi Jun with his hand, he looked forward again.

A few more people wearing yellow protective clothing came. They commanded a yellow truck with "CM" written on it. Under their command, the truck slowly approached the square. Only then did Shi Jun and Xin notice. There is also an excavator parked in the woods to the right of the square. The truck slowly approached. Then slowly reverse the car. After stopping. The truck box is open. One corpse after another was dumped into the dug pit.

Xin couldn't bear to watch.

"I know what they are." Xin. "They are the cleaning crews on TV. CM is their abbreviation. This should be Area A. They are cleaning up."

"Let's back up. The smoke here is choking." Shi Junwan backed up the car. He turned the car around and returned along the same road.

"We are going back the way we came. The road to the city is already blocked by cars. Otherwise, we can take Sinan Road and then turn to Shifu Road. Although it is far, we can also go around Zhongshan Road." Shi Jun.

Xin didn't answer.

"If you find Bo Kang, what are your plans?" Shi Jun asked.

"I don't know..." Xin replied.

"Then...what if it's not found?"

"I'll definitely find it." Xin. I remembered that when I was in the hospital, I called Bo Kang to ask him to leave Hemen City.

But she believed that he had not left. It must still be here.

Must still be in Hemen City.
