Chapter 40 - Just One Shot!

Then he lightly tapped on a nearby door.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The sound wasn't too loud or too soft, just enough to be heard throughout the entire basement.

Georgia immediately raised her dagger, cautious.

After a while with no response, Dylan relaxed his guard, saying, "Okay, there are no zombies on this basement level.

Remember, zombies are sensitive to sound. If there were any, they would have come out as soon as they heard the noise.

No need to make such an effort!"

"Got it!"

Georgia accepted Dylan's advice humbly, but she was curious about Dylan's extensive experience. Who exactly was he?

However, now wasn't the time to ask, so she could only continue searching for the equipment room.

Once they confirmed it was safe, their search sped up. Soon enough, they found the equipment room.

The door to the equipment room was also open, which left Dylan and Georgia feeling both relieved and concerned.

They were relieved because the door was very heavy. If it were closed, they would have had to put in some effort to open it.

They were concerned because the door was open, indicating that someone had been inside, and the ammunition inside might have been taken.

Speculating wouldn't help. They had to go in and see for themselves.

Georgia walked in first, with Dylan following closely behind.

With a flashlight illuminating all corners, they saw the room was in disarray, with cabinets left open.

Several handguns lay scattered on the ground, and there were still some bullets left on the shelves.

Georgia immediately went to grab the bullets, with Dylan following suit.

While Georgia wasn't paying attention, Dylan used his spatial ability to discreetly take several boxes of bullets and a handgun.

He didn't know if these bullets and guns were compatible, but he figured he'd take them first and sort it out later.

Then, he collected some scattered handcuffs, batons, and other useful equipment into his spatial storage.

Once Georgia packed up all the bullets and loaded the handguns, she felt a bit more confident.

Turning to look at the dumbfounded Dylan, she said impatiently, "What are you standing there for? See if there's anything useful, grab it!"

Upon hearing this, Dylan smirked inwardly.

Didn't she realize the equipment room was practically empty because of him?

However, Dylan still pretended to be pleasantly surprised as he picked up a handgun from the ground."Do you even know how to use it?" Georgia mocked as she saw him pick up the gun.

"Oh come on! Everyone has a first time. Just pull the trigger, and you'll figure it out!" Dylan retorted, annoyed by her tone.

"Haha, but without bullets, you can't shoot, can you?" Georgia teased.

Dylan raised an eyebrow. "Oh, this girl is really getting into it."

Stepping forward, he got close to Georgia's face, teasingly saying, "Even without bullets, it's still hard! If I hit you with it, would it hurt?"

Feeling Dylan's breath close to her, warm against her nose, Georgia felt a slight tingling sensation.

Hearing Dylan's words, it seemed like there was an underlying meaning.

Rolling her eyes at Dylan, she pushed him away and raised the gun in her hand. "Stay away from me, or you might accidentally fire the gun!"

"Oh~" Dylan was about to retort when suddenly screams came from upstairs.

They exchanged a glance and immediately ran upstairs.

When they reached the first-floor entrance, they found Alberta and Dorothy huddled outside an office.

It was where Georgia's two colleagues were supposed to be.

The police dog (Dylan) squeezed past everyone and entered the room first.

"What happened?" Dylan quickly asked.

"The male officer turned into a zombie and bit the female officer!" Jodie explained.

Upon hearing this, Georgia pushed past them and entered the office.

The room was chaotic, with bloodstains covering the floor.

The male officer who turned into a zombie had a big hole in his head and lay motionless on the ground.

The female officer, Adela, had a bite wound on her neck, blood oozing out.

The police dog (Dylan) was softly whimpering as he licked her face.

Georgia rushed to Adela's side, lifting her up and pressing her hand against the wound, trying to stop the bleeding.

"What happened?" Dylan asked Alberta.

"We heard screams and came to check. We found the male officer had already bitten her neck. She had a knife in her hand but hadn't used it. I took care of the zombie officer with my knife!" Alberta explained.Alberta recounted the events that had just occurred, and Dylan listened with a heavy heart.

Holding Adela, Georgia choked up, "Didn't I tell you? If Garrett turned into a zombie, don't hesitate to protect yourself. Why didn't you listen?"

Weakly, Adela responded, "Captain... Garrett was... my comrade... I... I couldn't bring myself to do it."

Sighs filled the room as everyone felt pity.

"You silly girl!" Georgia cried, tears streaming down her face.

"Captain..."

"Yes?"

"Will I... also turn... into someone like Garrett?"

Georgia didn't answer, just held Adela tightly.

"Captain... I don't want... to become... that kind... of... monster. Please... give me... a quick... death..."

With her last strength, Adela pleaded, her eyes filled with a plea.

"Sob... Sob..." Georgia, who had always been strong, couldn't help but cry at her colleague's final request.

"I... beg... you..."

Adela's gaze began to blur, and slowly, the virus began to invade her brain. She was already showing signs of snarling.

Watching anxiously, Dylan couldn't bear to see Georgia follow the fate of her colleague.

"Captain Georgia, you..."

"I know. Please, all of you, leave!"

Dylan wanted to remind her, but Georgia promptly ushered him out.

Once they were outside the room, Alberta, Dorothy, and Jodie's eyes were all moist.

Dylan was speechless. In this world, life was so fragile!

Dylan had seen such scenes many times. In the apocalypse, human life was the cheapest.

You might have emotions, but others might not, and zombies certainly didn't.

So, being ruthless was the key to survival!

"Bang!"

A gunshot echoed from inside the room.

Dylan nodded to himself.

Captain Georgia, if you get past this hurdle, you'll truly grow.

After a while, Georgia emerged from the room, leading the police dog. With red eyes and without saying a word, Georgia closed the office door and saluted it. Then, she took out two handguns and gave one to Alberta and one to Jodie.

"These belonged to my colleagues. Keep them for self-defense!"

"The bullets are already loaded. Remember to protect yourselves from now on!"

After saying that, she walked upstairs with the police dog. Alberta and Jodie were stunned, as they had never handled a gun before, let alone fired one.

"We don't know how to use these!" Alberta said.

"Everyone has a first time. Just pull the trigger, and you'll figure it out!" Georgia replied without looking back.

Upon hearing this, Dylan suddenly became interested in Georgia. This girl, under stress, was learning and adapting quickly.

"Keep the guns safe. Wait here, I'll accompany her upstairs!" Dylan instructed before following Georgia upstairs.

Georgia led the police dog to search each room, with Dylan trailing behind her. After finishing the second floor, they moved to the third floor.

"Why are you still following me? Are you here to watch me fail? Laugh at me for not being able to protect even my colleagues?"

Seeing Dylan constantly on her heels, Georgia finally erupted.

With red eyes, she vented her frustration on Dylan.

Dylan hadn't expected Georgia to be angry with him, leaving him puzzled.

"Captain Georgia, I just wanted to come up and help you! I didn't mean anything else!"

Georgia sneered, "Do you think you're amazing? Haha! You may be strong, but I don't need your help!"

Dylan was speechless. It seemed like he was being bitten after offering good intentions.

If it weren't for the fact that you're the shooting goddess of the apocalypse, would I still follow you?

Suddenly, from the innermost office, came the sound of a zombie's growl.

Both Dylan and Georgia froze for a moment, then instinctively headed toward the sound.

They walked all the way to the chief's office at the end of the hallway before stopping.

The sound was indeed coming from inside.

Dylan kicked the door open and found a uniformed zombie inside, presumably a former police officer.

There was also another zombie lying on the ground, dressed in civilian clothes.
