After resting for a while, the two finally started to get up!
After taking a hot shower, Dylan thoughtfully brought out fresh food for Alberta to replenish her energy.
Alberta looked at the warm and freshly cooked food, hesitating to speak several times.
Dylan knew what she wanted to ask, but how could he tell her?
Well, Alberta was his now. They would be living under the same roof in the future, and he couldn't keep avoiding her.
"I awakened spatial abilities! There are some supplies stored in the space!" Dylan said, as if performing magic, and produced a down jacket out of thin air.
Alberta looked at Dylan incredulously, finding it hard to accept such a miraculous thing.
However, Dylan didn't reveal all the items stored in the space. Some things were better kept secret until he was strong enough to share them.
Alberta regained her composure and seemed to suddenly remember something, asking eagerly, "So, you've stored all the items on the list I gave you?"
"Yes, I've stored some of them," Dylan replied.
Alberta looked at Dylan gently and said, "You keep surprising me."
"Just because of a dream, you've done so much. Aren't you afraid that dream might be false?" Alberta asked, puzzled.
Dylan rubbed his nose, choosing not to answer. Some things were better kept reserved. A beautiful lie wouldn't hurt.
"Well, this dream feels very real! Anyway, what I did was right, wasn't it?" Dylan replied.
Alberta thought about it and realized, what did it matter why he did it? The result was good, and that's all that mattered.
Even if Dylan had some secrets, they were perhaps his own, and she had no right to pry.
"So, when will I awaken my abilities?" Alberta asked eagerly.
Dylan thought for a moment. In his past life, abilities were awakened after the cold wave. Although he wasn't sure if everyone awakened on the same day, it shouldn't be long now.
"Don't worry, it should be in the next few days," he reassured her.
Dylan was also curious about what ability Alberta would awaken.
...
Dylan counted the days. The ten-day cold wave was about to pass, and tomorrow's temperature would rise to around minus 30 degrees Celsius. They could finally go outside.
With the super heavy-duty off-road camper truck, he wasn't worried about the temperature anymore.
There were two things he needed to do now: one was to help Alberta find her brother.
Another thing was to go to the Seaside Hotel and see if Dorothy was in the hotel.
Of course, even if she was in the hotel, if luck was not on his side, she might just be a cold corpse.
However, Dylan wanted to try his luck.
Early the next morning, Dylan took out the Conqueror heavy-duty off-road camper from the space, started the vehicle in advance, and turned on the air conditioning inside the car so that it would be warm when they set out.
He also took out the revolver snatched from Fitzwilliam from the space, which still had 5 bullets inside.
Guns were still useful in the early stages; killing was efficient and effortless, but they were just a bit short on bullets.
These types of guns were more commonly equipped by police officers in police stations, so the next step would be to try to get more bullets, perhaps by trying their luck at the police station.
Waking up the exhausted Alberta, the two began to put on their clothes.
Dylan originally didn't want Alberta to follow him; he wanted her to rest in the villa since it was relatively safe there.
But Alberta insisted on going; just in case his brother was at home, she wanted to see him as soon as possible.
Of course, primarily, she only felt safe when she was with Dylan.
Dylan took out two magic sky knives from the space and handed one to Alberta, saying, "Take this for self-defense. In case of danger, you know what to do!"
Dylan made a slashing motion across his neck.
Alberta took the knife, nodding solemnly.
With everything ready, the two got into the camper and set off.
It was Dylan's first time driving such a large vehicle, and he was not used to it. He only had a basic driving license (Class C), and he had never driven such a long vehicle before.
However, there weren't many cars or people on the road, so he wasn't worried.
He slowly drove the car out of the villa, but he didn't see anyone along the way.
With this temperature, without strong insulation measures, people couldn't go outside.
But he knew that with the noise from such a large vehicle, there must be many survivors in the surrounding villas who noticed them.
Driving down the mountain road, a frozen corpse in the middle of the road caught Alberta's attention.
"That...that looks like Cherry!"
Thinking of the scene from ten days ago still vividly in her mind, but in the blink of an eye, Cherry had become a corpse.
Alberta sighed, such is life!
She glanced gratefully at Dylan, who was focused on driving. If it weren't for him taking her in, she might have ended up like this too!
Feeling Alberta's gaze, Dylan smiled but didn't say anything. He just stepped on the gas pedal and drove over the corpse.
The camper accelerated past, leaving behind a pool of flesh. In the university town under Purple Mountain, the streets were filled with parked cars in all directions.
Scattered along the roadside were many corpses, and of course, there were quite a few inside the cars as well.
Hiding in the car was of no use in the cold snap.
Dylan didn't make any stops; he drove directly to the neighborhood where Clarence lived under Alberta's guidance.
The neighborhood wasn't far from the university town. Dylan simply crashed through the gate's railing and drove in.
Arriving at the building where Clarence lived, they climbed to his floor, and Alberta impatiently knocked on the door.
As expected, there was no response. It seemed Clarence was indeed not at home at the time.
To confirm that Clarence hadn't frozen to death at home, Dylan took out a pry bar from the space and forced the door open.
The house was empty, with no one inside.
Alberta felt both relieved and worried. She was relieved that her brother hadn't frozen to death at home but worried that he might have frozen to death at the bathhouse.
There were plenty of bathhouses in Bluewater Bay, and Dylan couldn't possibly go to each one, not only wasting time but also increasing the risk.
Alberta understood this and didn't insist further.
As the two were about to leave, suddenly, the neighbor across the hall opened the door.
A disheveled woman wrapped in a quilt stood in the doorway.
"Are...are you here...to rescue...us?" the woman asked, trembling from the cold.
Alberta recognized her; she was the neighbor who lived opposite her brother's apartment. Alberta occasionally encountered her when she came back, but they had never spoken.
"Not exactly," Dylan replied.
The woman looked disappointed but continued, "Do you...do you have any water? If you do...could you give me some? My child is extremely thirsty!"
Upon hearing this, Alberta thought of the half-bucket of clean water in her brother's apartment that hadn't been finished yet. Although it had frozen, it could still be thawed by placing it in a warm place.
"We do. Wait here!" Alberta turned to fetch the water, but Dylan stopped her.
Looking at the woman calmly, Dylan said, "We have water, but it's not free. You have to exchange something for it."
The woman was taken aback, then quickly said, "There's nothing at home to exchange, and my phone is dead, so I can't transfer money."
Dylan smiled, "You don't need anything or money. You can exchange it with the time on your arm."
Surprised, the woman asked, "That can be exchanged? How?"
Dylan took the water from Alberta's hand and said, "How much is your monthly salary?"
