If a deduction in a subplot doesn't have an ending, and it ends up being a mess, how am I supposed to write it into a novel later on? Moreover, knowing about a crime and not reporting it goes against the education I've always received at school—it just doesn't feel quite right.
But, on the other hand, if I really did report it, and once the affair is exposed, and the insurance money is lost, what about the livelihood of Kameda's wife and children? What if it leads to some human tragedy later on? Would I be able to sleep at night then?
It seems I really shouldn't have sought out this accomplice; it would be best to act as if nothing had happened.
