LUCAS' POV.
I got to the room I always used whenever I stayed with John, and watched the stranger I had given my body willingly, walking down the road lifelessly.
She ought to be followed because I didn't think she was thinking straight. She looked way too shocked.
Emily…
Her name was Emily. Finally, the stranger in my head had a name. John had hurt her badly, and she had called him all sorts of names. It was proof that she was indeed strange.
Women, as I knew never wanted to get on the bad side of someone like John. He was handsome, and the perfect man to brag about to friends. He was rich, and was the heir— An Alpha.
Even if he had hurt them, they'd cry, play weak, and have him comfort them. She had spoken with such defiance. Who was she? I didn't think she was rich, else she'd have paid John his money, and could have walked out on him.
Other women would have begged him, and told him they were sorry, but she hadn't done any of that. In her eyes, had been pure hurt, and betrayal. What could John have done to her?
John hadn't really read through the book, and maybe I was glad he didn't because it stated somewhere that the one who broke it had to serve a year, so the pain of it could be rubbed on them. Then, if they had the money, the other two years were completely unnecessary.
I stared at her until she was out of sight, and sighed. Seeing her had been a bolt shot to my chest. She had sprang out of nowhere when I was still trying hard to forget her.
She looked more beautiful than the night I had seen her. Her dark blonde hair had fallen on the sides of her face, and had a pretty pin placed on it. Her dark eyes seemed mysterious, and so defiant, until the defiance had crashed in recognition.
She knew me…
Just like I had been unable to forget her face, she had been unable to forget mine…
Maybe I was happy to see her once more, but my heart felt heavy. Of all the women in the world, how could I have slept with my Nephew's? How could it have happened that way? That night, what was she doing so far from her neighborhood?
I was thrown into despair. John was impulsive, and would not sit back if he knew what I had done with his woman. He wouldn't mind that we had been strangers, but of course, all that wouldn't matter if she didn't go back on her word.
If she didn't stay engaged to him, then he had no cause to control whatever she did.
I took my shower immediately, and tried to clear my head of thoughts. The last thing I needed was John noticing something off about me.
When I went down the stairs, I met one of John's secretaries— Katie. When had she come in? Wasn't it too late for her to be in John's house?
Also, she was dressed casually. Her hair was down, and looked messy. If I saw properly, her shorts were actually night shorts.
Had she spent the night with John?
She stared at the pieces of the shattered stone Alpha Wolf, and looked to be in deep thought.
"Katie." I called, and she jumped, turning to look at me with shock in her eyes.
"Al…Alpha Lucas." She called, taking a step back. She looked away, and held her hands in front of her, trying to cover her shorts.
"I didn't know you returned." She said, in a little voice.
"I returned today." I said, drying my hair with a towel. I sat at the dining table, and could smell Bubba Gump Shrimp, with Chicken frying.
I ought not to dry my hair at the table, but being alone made me think more of Emily, so I left my room hastily.
"John and I have a lot of work, so he asked me to come over, so we could catch up." She explained, even though I didn't ask.
"Have your seat. You're having dinner with us, right?" I asked and she took her seat, a chair away from the one opposite me.
"Thank you." She said; Shortly, John came out, and saw me with wet hair.
"Oh come on, Lucas. We're at the table." He snapped, but my eyes were only for the meal.
"Woah." I exclaimed, as I discovered the Chicken to be deep-fried.
"Katie came to…"
"She explained already. I didn't ask anyone for any explanations." I said, spearing a shrimp with my fork.
"Oh." John said, and dashed up the stairs. "Stop eating. I'm yet to dish it out." He said, but I didn't stop. "Katie, please dish it before he eats it all." He ordered, and I chuckled, spearing four shrimps at once, before Katie could politely dig the saucier spoon John had provided, into it.
Shortly, John returned, and began to blow my hair dry.
"You're worse. I didn't know you wanted my hair as a side dish for dinner." I said, and he laughed, pulling me from my chair.
John, and I talked over dinner, laughing and talking like we were the same age.
Katie smiled, and was shy as always. She averted her eyes, and answered slowly whenever I asked her a question.
"What made you fight with your fiancée?" I asked, and Katie choked on her water.
"Take it easy." John said, and turned to me. "It was just a minor misunderstanding. She gets mad all the time. She met Katie working in my house, and blew the whole thing up, insinuating I was cheating on her." He said, casually, and Katie looked uncomfortable.
"She must have a terrible temper, then." I commented.
~
That night, I couldn't sleep without one image popping up in my head. It was Emily smiling.
No matter how I tried, I couldn't get her face out of her mind. The night we had shared kept on playing perfectly in my mind.
Seeing her stare at me in shock also replayed itself countless times.
Every single emotion I had seen in her eyes disturbed me.
Joyful eyes, seducing eyes, hurt and betrayed eyes, defiant eyes, scared eyes, shocked eyes…
Why was I thinking continuously about her?
No woman had crossed my mind so consistently. What was happening to me?
