EMILY'S POV.
We both stopped, and from the corner of my eye, I could see Sadie tense up. My lips trembled, and my heart rate began to pick up slowly, but steadily, gradually rising to maniacal beating.
How did it happen that we were discussing such problematic matters in the living room?
"Did you both see a ghost?" Mandy asked, smoothing her satin evening gown.
"What?" Sadie asked, breathily.
"You both are sent for. Dinner's about to start." She said, and looked from my face to Sadie's, before turning around, and walking back out the door.
"Do you… do you think she heard anything? She didn't, did she? Did she look like she heard us saying something?" I asked, with my eyes trained on the door like it would swing open again.
"I don't know. I'm just as clueless as you are."
"What was the last thing we said?" I asked, suddenly forgetting the last thing I had said.
"You and the pregnancy."
