The tension in the air was suffocating. It wrapped around my chest like a vice, tightening with every disapproving glance and whispered conversation. They thought I couldn't hear them, but I did. Wolves were careless like that.
"Mason's losing control."
"Does he even care about the pack anymore?"
"First Bethany, now this mess. How long until someone challenges him?"
Their words sliced through me like claws. I'd spent years proving my worth as their leader, years building the pack into something strong, something unshakable. And now, all it took was a few weeks of turmoil for them to start doubting me.
It wasn't just about Bethany anymore. It was about power, perception, and control. If I let this spiral any further, I wouldn't just lose her. I'd lose everything.
I slammed my fist into the wall of my office, the drywall cracking under the force. My wolf growled low in my chest, restless and angry.
