Sun Wu's phone slipped to the ground. He didn't bother to put on his coat, preparing to run out the door in just his undershirt, but after only taking a couple of steps, he noticed a green dot appear in his living room, accompanied by a straight beam of light shooting in through the window.
The dot on the wall flickered three times, and then it vanished into thin air. He stood by the window, looking towards the source of the light, only to see darkness; he couldn't make out anything at all. Yet, whenever he crossed the midline of the living room, the green dot would light up again, glaringly noticeable amidst the darkness.
He knew there was no escape. Embracing his despair, he returned to the room to pick up his phone to see what had happened behind him, but by now the phone signal was lost. The screen was empty, save for the last message Sun Qi had sent him that afternoon: "Brother, I'm coming home for dinner tonight—it's your birthday."
