"We have twenty-one people here, and there's only enough food for one bite each." Huotuichang took out all the food: "We've gathered a few cans, some mineral water, and a couple of rotten oranges."
The people from the two classes huddled in the cramped attic, the weather hot and stuffy, the stench of decay from outside seeping in through the crevices. Everyone was holding back, but they couldn't open the windows; they even tried to minimize movement in order to reduce noise. Countless wandering zombies outside made a forceful breakthrough impossible.
"Let the girls eat first," Huang Lei whispered. "I'll figure something out; you all wait here."
"How can you figure anything out... the outside is packed with zombies." Huotuichang grabbed Huang Lei's arm. "Don't just throw your life away."
Huang Lei shook his head: "You underestimate me. Go and distribute the cans to the girls."
