The researchers didn't really want to involve the Fire Dragon in research; after all, for the most part, the dragon was a warrior. Having a warrior participate in research seemed to undermine their own abilities.
However, because they were researchers and not bound by conventional thinking, they acknowledged that the Fire Dragon's research abilities were actually quite impressive. The creature's understanding of special powers far exceeded theirs, and it was also proficient in magic. Unfortunately, when not on a mission, the Fire Dragon couldn't care less about research.
Everything moved at a slow pace because the dragon could live for a very, very long time, while humans only had a hundred and eighty years.
