After moving away from the crowd, Mother Gao Ser gave Gaven a thumbs-up and said, "The way you handled Parost was simply brilliant. There was no chance for that old guy Krewen and me to step in."
"If we had known you had this up your sleeve, we wouldn't have needed to throw any party. A mere formality at Launcel's grave would have sufficed."
Obviously, Mother Gao Ser and Father Krewen had arrived on site early, intending to step in and smooth things over should Gaven come into conflict with the locals.
Little did they expect that Gaven, though young in age, was as shrewd as they come. His methods were so adroit, they even surpassed theirs.
At least, Mother Gao Ser admitted to herself that had she been in his position, she might not have done a better job than Gaven.
If initially, Mother Gao Ser's choice to help Gaven was purely driven by self-interest,
by now, she had begun to genuinely appreciate him.
