While vampires did possess the ability to transform into mist, they certainly wouldn't carry with them such a wide-ranging dark fog wherever they went.
This must be a unique ability of the Dwarves Vampire.
Because adult Dwarves Elves naturally possessed spell-like abilities to perform Dark Arts.
When they turned into dark beings, it was likely that such abilities would be deeply enhanced, giving rise to what lay before their eyes.
