In front of the village, dozens of sheepskin rafts and small boats were linked together.
The boatmen used their poles to pull several villagers soaked in the water onto the rafts, while driving away the rats attempting to climb aboard.
"There's someone over there! It's Auntie Zhang! Uncle Zhang! Auntie Zhang is over there!"
"Old Zhang, stop sniveling there and come over, your wife's alright!"
"Aiyo wai!"
Old Zhang sprung up from the boat like a toad and ran from the rear of the boat, hopping onto the bamboo raft at the front, but he ran too fast and almost didn't stop in time, luckily a boatman used his pole to prevent him from falling into the water.
"Hongmei, Hongmei! Hurry up and get on!"
Overcome with emotion, Old Zhang crouched down and leaned over the edge of the raft, stretching out most of his body to pull his wife from the water.
Unexpectedly, once on the raft, the woman was both crying and laughing, clutching Old Zhang's head and pounding on it nonstop.
